No new car should ever cost more than a faster second-hand car.

No second hand car should ever cost more than what they consider to be the going price.

No one should buy a new car if the poster would not entertain buying it themselves.........
I think that applies to the internet in many forms.

I can't afford a GT86, if I could I'd probably buy something else because I'd want that something else more.

But it doesn't seem expensive when compared to the list prices of things like a Focus, Golf, Astra etc that doesn't have sporting pretensions.
Very true Chris.

I'd certainly like to try one and if it was good I'll get one second-hand perhaps as I haven't got 25k spare. These appeal to me more than second-hand Mondeos or Golf Tdis - just personal choice

What were the Corollas rivals back in the day though? The GT86 was meant to be a dirivetive of a boring economical hatch and therefore would have had a fairly budget initial cost.

Problem is, this is marketed against TT's, 1 Series and other premium coupe's and that's how it's justifying its price. That doesn't make sense to me...

Sounds like the idea originally was from some excited and passionate, Japanese RWD car obsessive and ended up being diluted until it's forced to be what was never intended.

Balance-sheet Vs the dream.

Not proof read as I can't be arsed (I'm working) so do one if the above is grammatically wrong :P
It's not marketed against TTs and 1 serieses. It's not a premium coupe and is not promoted as such.

It seems 100% pure to the original concept. They never promised anything more than a modestly powerful, light, RWD, affordable and interesting car. That's what they've given us.

You think the difference in running costs between the two cars over, say 12,000 miles per yea will be £200?
No, but not too far off. As others will testify the servicing on a 370Z is surprisingly cheap & it can hit 35mpg on a cruise. Main defference is going to be insurance & consumables. For a less youthful driver wink insurance difference might be in the order of £100 and say you wear out a set of tyres on both the difference might be £50 a corner.

Personally even if the Nissan cost me £1000 more over a year I'd be happy as it's demonstrably in a performance class above.

So over 12,000 miles running on Super unleaded at 142.0p

Toyota: £1,844.41
Nissan: £2,979.44

Over the year the Nissan will cost you an extra £1135.03 in fuel
I would imagine if your getting to get anywhere near 42mpg out of the 86 and to coin a phrase being thrown around on this thread, the buyer has missed the point!

If its going to be driven as everyone suggests your going to be spanking the t*ts out of it most of the time, i mean, whats the point in having a "drivers car" if its not going to be used as such is what your all saying!

So once the claimed consumption actually gets its scrutiny from owners it will get much closer to the Nissan, which as your not having to use as much throttle to stay ahead or behind (in interests of fairness) of the 86 on a spirited road drive smile

I just think it should have looked much more like the concept, drivers car or not, it needs to appeal in more than one criteria? Obviously that is respective to what you like, however, when the official pics came through most posts were divided about its looks and the ones that didnt appreciate the production version mostly all claimed to like the concept!

Well priced and hope it sells all they can make.

But of course it needs 300bhp, bigger wheels, better tyres, should weigh less than 750kg and cost £15k laugh
...and should look much better. Why sportscars on a budget are sooooooo high, ugly and boring looking these days ???

By the time you consider fuel, tax and insurance (more powerful car / expensive car is likely to be more to insure) the difference is going to be nudging 2K per year. That's forgeting the fact the Nissan is the more expensive to buy in the first place.

The Nissan is in a different class to the Toyota, more performance and more cost. Some people will be happy to spend the extra those that aren't now have an alternative.

If you decide that you prefer the Nissan I'm sure people on the internet can make an argument saying if you spend just a bit more you can get something a bit faster/nicer.

Where do you draw the line?

It's a shame that the vast majority of the new car buying public are attracted to softy touchy plastics and Audi pose-mobiles.

Personally, I think the Toyobaru is fantastic and hearing a senior member of the Toyota development team (can't remember his name) saying that he hopes people will pack the boot with spare wheels and take it on track days, makes me like it even more.

A great honest car without any pose value - Thumbs up!

Now I've just got to twiddle my thumbs for a couple of years until the 2nd-hand price falls to my level.

I'd like to know the alternative coupe for 25K that offer a similar spec for a lower price.

If the suggestion is a very leggy 996 I won't be happy.
2nd hand Boxter S then? laugh
£25k will get you a 2nd hand 997 with reasonable miles.

Lightly used Porsche or new Toyota?

£24,999 and looking at the Toyata site this does seem to be reasonably spec'd - only options leather sports seats and a media system. I could live without both of them if the standard seats are not too low went. Or as long as the upgraded seats and media system don't cost £5k then I take back what I previously said about this beeing too expensive.

A pity it's not cheaper but I guess with the value of the yen etc this is as cheap as they could sell it - at £19,999 it would sell like hotcakes.

Infact yhey should do a Ford [with the Mk Focus RS] and sell it at a loss [say £17,999] to act as a loss leader, improving their image etc, then gradually increase price year by year - then I would buy it wink

Hell I`d buy a 10k miler for 18-19 grand... pocket the leftovers for a lovely holiday with the missus..

But it's not the same price, which rather undermines your point.

Looking in the classifieds a 19K 370Z will be 3 years old (which I think is out of warranty) and a private sale, so buyer beware.

If you want to buy from a dealer your looking at more like 20K+ on the clock.

Is this correct?
Although one might imagine it to be a Subaru engine, I believe it's not and is a Toyota designed unit.
Engine is Subaru's, direct injection system is Toyota's.
