Well biggrin I'm just not THAT desperate.

Stick a 5.7V8 in the Elise!
This!

Buy it, stick the engine in the Elise and be amazed at the masterpiece you have created. It won't change the handling one bit, promise... hehe

ETA: Congrats on the purchase, now for the engine transfer ;-)

I'm pretty sure the output on these is 245hp.
I had an earlier V8 3rd gen Z28 with the 170hp LG4 and the far nicer but power-limited T5 manual box.

The later interiors were much better and yours looks like it has 4th gen leather seats fitted.

They are great fun. The rear lower control arms need replacing for tubular items and the front brakes can get sticky and aren't great anyway.

Check the inner sills behind where the exhaust runs as this a common rusting point. The exhaust is hard to modify a lot because there is very little room over the back axle to accommodate more than a single pipe.

You won't lose money on this. The 3rd gen has done all it's depreciating and is starting to ascend in value as the last "classically-styled" Camaro. The 4th gen IS a better and more powerful car but it's physically bigger and lacks the "American looks". They used to be very common at shows but nowadays the numbers are falling.

Beware of the propensity to swop ends - it's very easy to drive these cars fast and become immune to the fact that a sharp bend needs a little less speed than you're carrying.

Readers car thread now up: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Looking forward to going rumbling about in it tonight. Theres literally no rust on the car, its lived in an air conditioned de-humidified garage.

I can see how you could EASILY end up facing the other way in it, the power delivery at low speeds is a bit binary.

It is very easy to end up facing the other way, I managed it twice in my 190bhp IROC-Z. I drive my current Camaro a little more carefully.

Seriously - you know it's going to be rubbish, and drink like a 90's pop star right?

If you're after muscle car, why not something well engineered, and depite their age, still modern like a Nissan 300ZX, Toyota Supra, or a Mitsubishi 3000GT?
Drinks like a 90's pop star biggrin shamelessly stolen cheers.

OP: DO IT DO IT NOWlaugh

don't expect it to behave like a refined European motor respect the potential
power and expect huge thirst and you will love it.

ETA oh you did buy it nice one enjoy.

Do it! But a word of warning. Like all old yank stuff they dont handle. My brother had this......

You could have the back end out going around a roundabout at 25mph. But so much fun.And loads of character.

For handling then i'm more than happy with this.Replaced my Cerbera with it....

A year in and never fails to impress. Full head up display that gives all the cars functions plus track mode options. Pity i will be parting with it soon. Only to be replaced by a Z06..hehe

I wouldn't say they don't handle. Mine had no problems haranguing a well-driven Focus over a sinuous mountain road. They just need a bit of respect because when they let go, they are almost impossible to catch. Mine wore 175/60 tyres IIRC which were more forgiving than modern low-profiles.
