Top speed is one aspect of a cars performance, but not the only aspect

I can't believe i just had to explain that on a motoring forum ffs
I can't believe you compared a 3 series diesel to a Caterham, top speed is such an over rated measure of performance. Not much has ever gone past my lowly Caterham despite it's sub repmobile performance wink
I love caterhams, but they arent supercars.
This is a boring argument innit

I am not arguing just confused as to why you would measure a classic of motorsports design against a modern car obviously designed to return decent mpg? I can't stand the word supercar, it means nothing, well not nothing but more a way of putting a snob tax on something that is not better in absolute terms than something else which is usually cheaper, less exclusive and therefore accessable to the masses.

I'd cross the road to look at a Lambo or a nice Porsche. I'd rather drool over an Aston Martin than a supermodel. But I had never noticed the Nissan. A car nut at work pointed out one to me in the work carpark. Just looked like a sporty jap car to me. Which could be a good thing I guess..

That's a different argument. I was disagreeing with the sentiment that a GTR should be grouped with Evos and Imprezas.
Yes, they are all from Japan

Its the same reason why a Zonda would have no appeal if it looked like a Mondeo.
The Lotus Carlton had appeal despite looking like a Carlton.

If you only do 6,000 miles a year, you'll be ok smile

It makes me sad, though.
For pre MY11 models it is 6,000 a year or every 6 months smile A lot of owners who do low mileage tend to switch to a yearly service ones the 3 year warranty expires.

Post MY11 models have annual service schedules.

Now - In danger of returning to the topic...

I understand that Litchfield will be offering a warranty for circa £1k which will include coverage for any mods/updates they apply. Now of course the detail/smallprint will need scrutiny but I've heard nothing but good reports on these guys. I also went down there and test drove a T25 Impreza with them and this seemed well founded.

The fact that I could have the 2011 gearbox software applied to the car and perhaps a stage 1 upgrade appeals hugely when coupled to a warranty. Not to mention that Litchfield's servicing is much more competitive. Nissan are purportedly offering their warranty at £2600 PA although I'm yet to hear that first hand. I'll be inquiring soon though as I think my warranty expires in June or so.

2011 model is 9000 or 12 months, which represents a considerable saving.

It's a massive amount of car and performance for the money. Servicing costs and extended warranty costs you just have to accept with these highly strung cars. They are reasonably anonymous to non petrolheads too.

Check out the servicing costs and inetrvals of the "highly strung" Porsche range.

I really want to try and maybe own a GT-R but imagine what sort of car the likes of Porsche or Lotus could create if they made a car that needed servicing every 6k.

Sorry I don't know of any highly strung cars in the Porsche range. 550BHP from a 3.8 with twin turbos is what I call highly strung (similarly 300 BHP single turbo from 2L like my old Evo 7 which also had a 6000 mile service interval).
997 Turbo - 132 bhp/litre (without Sport Chrono)
997 GT2 - 145 bhp/litre
GT-R - 142 bhp/litre

Hardly miles apart.

997 GT-2 service interval is 10,000km unless I'm much mistaken.

Those two are close, the GT2 costs a lot more to buy though, which underlines the title of this thread.

Would you think that anyone who is looking to buy either would really that bothered about servicing costs? I mean seriously, are we trying to suggest that 6000 miles of hooning around in either isn't going to cost just slightly more than the average car? Hard useage will kill the tyres in signficantly less time than an intermediate service.

Which, if so, is 2,800 miles less than a new GT-R's. Not sure what you're getting at.

I wouldn't say any of them are particularly highly-strung, although the GT-R's pre-2011 service intervals do seem to err on the side of caution.

I interpreted Mikeyboys post as inferring that Porsche had longer service intervals than the GT-R.

You are mistaken, thanks for simply guessing though.........

12,000 miles for all GT models.
