RE: Time for Tea? BR-Z and GT-86 take on MX-5
Discussion
There is still time to look at what you could buy for the same price on the secondhand market.
Porsche 911, Cayman, Boxster. Almost an Aston V8, not too far off for an Audi R8, BMW M3 or M5 so for me I would go for any of the above rather than the really average Toyota/Subaru after all, they didn't do much better than an old MX-5, which I think was the real winner in the race.

For people earnestly trying to discuss the BR-Z and GT-86, maybe trying to decide which they prefer or whether an MX-5 is perhaps still the better purchase, you think bringing the Cayman, 911, Aston V8, R8, M3 and M5 is a positive contribution?Porsche 911, Cayman, Boxster. These suggestions are better left for the "Which car for £25k thread"....

Could someone point me towards a new RWD 2+2 coupe with more than 200bhp for around £25k or less?
Why is this statement the instant go to in defence of the 86/brz? Ah yes, because its unquestionable! So what your saying is, if we want a new rwd 2+2 coupe with more than 200bhp for around £25k, we have no choice, hardly an inspiring reason to buy!!!!There are lots of factors than people will look at when buying these cars and the people wanting that exact criteria you quote will probably be 1%.
In most cases, each and every point you raise will be broken down and prioritised, do i want 200hp as much as i want rwd, do i want rwd as much as i want a 25k budget, do i want a coupe more than a soft top, do i want new or 2nd hand and 99% of those potential buyers will prioritise key points differently. So in essence these cars wont be the "only" choice unless they want everything you listed!
As other have mentioned, which seems to get brushed under the carpet and dismissed under the banner of "importance of having a drivers car" is looks, whether people like it or not, someone who wants a drivers car "may" also be concerned with looks (patiently waiting for everyone to condemn that statement with phrases questioning whether the buyer will be a "true driver" if he/she is concerned with looks at that point)
So tongue in check, could someone point me in the direction of a new RWD 2+2 coupe with more than 200bhp for around £25k or less that looks good?

Closest they do in a similar vein is the 3 litre six in the 1 coupe. 215bhp but similar performance.
£2365 more than the important £25k mark
Depends on what you consider 'closest' or 'in similar vein'? It never honestly crossed my mind that the 1 Series was a competitor or vise vera. £2365 more than the important £25k mark

But no warranty and huge bills when anything needs to be fixed.Porsche 911, Cayman, Boxster. You can't put these cars in the same category as the BRZ/86.

I do find it somewhat amusing that the BRZ / GT86 is constantly being compared to the MX5, which is essentially a 7 year old model now. Having said that Mazda have got their work cut out on a replacement!
Maybe, it's simply that this new car has no direct competitors other than the nearest being the MX5.oliver9523 said:
So we have...
Mazda - MX-5
Toyota - GT-86
Subaru - BRZ
Nissan - 370z
Honda - ???
New s2000 please.
It'll probably be more like S1600T or something
surely its the CR-Z? US mags have tested it to 60 at 8.8 seconds, which would appear to be the same ballpark as the low spec MX5, and its a 2+2 coupe. Its not rwd, I'll grant you, but the hot version, when it comes, could be quite a toolMazda - MX-5
Toyota - GT-86
Subaru - BRZ
Nissan - 370z
Honda - ???

Amazed how much more neutral the Scooby is. I hadn't assumed the suspension set-up would be that different.
What I'd really like to know is how many more laps they could have covered before cooking the brakes, if any.
The forthcoming 3-door 125i is a 4-pot turbo BTW and should be listed at £25k in M-Sport spec, and it simply can't be ignored if you're buying new, regardless of whether you're into brand snobbery or into reverse brand snobbery...

But 25k can buy me a tractor, can the toybaru do some ploughing ?
Some people are thick as st and I can say this car got me quite excited for some reason. I guess it's more reliable, cheaper , better looking rx8 comparable
What? the RX8 is a full four seater? Some people are thick as st and I can say this car got me quite excited for some reason. I guess it's more reliable, cheaper , better looking rx8 comparable

It's a rwd 2-door coupe , offers 4 seats and they're quite a wieldy little car compared to a 3-series.
