Possibly a typo, the GT3071R produces 500-550 peak in most 5/6 cylinder applications so it could well be that one.
Even the Polestar website lists it as a 3171 - mabye it's their own designation.

Still, I wait to see whether or not they actually put it into production and whether it'll do better than the IS-F.

There is a reason everyone buys them - they are the best.

By all means, buy it to be different - but there is a snowballs chance in hell this will be better than an M3.
Some Noble owners might have an issue with that point of view. Niche companies don't have to be big to be successful.

I believe a Mountune package can make the Focus ST significantly better with no obvious downside - no reason why Polestar couldn't do something similar.

Sure it can, relative to a bog standard Focus. But as a total package, I doubt it will be able to offer such a broad array of talents as the M3.

I love it.

I like the lack of 'image' it comes with. No one would expect the performance, and that concept appeals to me.

Paint in black and go round biffing up M3s at traffic lights (providing they don't lead on to twisty stuff where your glory may be short lived).

Interesting opinion - have you been in a modern Volvo with the R-Design interior? IMO it's a much nicer place to sit than the equivalent BMW/Audi/Merc cabins.
It really really isnt
Well, we preferred it. It felt much lighter and more spacious than the German equivalents (on price) we tried.
Its weird really as i quite like a dark interior,i guess most do judging by the amount of darkly trimmed cars are about when their are othe choices.
Again i feel that the german cars are screwed together better..and materials used less 'cheap' hence they charge more!!

It would be great to see a production version of this or something similar. 500hp sounds unlikely in a production version but close to 400 would be pleasant.

Of course it would never challenge the Germans on outright sales, nor perhaps lap times, but there will be a market for people wanting a discreet performance saloon that isn't German. I'd certainly rather have a Volvo, and I prefer the Volvo interiors too.

Has Volvo ever produced drivers cars though?

Seriously though you seem to have a beef against Volvo......why?
As far as interiors go I think Volvos take some beating and frankly I dont think BMW are up to the task.
I think this car has a lot to commend it.
No it might not have the tail happy antics of an M3 but as a package (think wet roads at night 300 miles from home) I'm not so sure.
Anyway if you want a drivers car- why would you splurge 50+K on an M3 when you could buy a sportscar;)

Err, yes.
I have no beef with volvo at all. Volvos niche are family luggers and comfy seats - and as such Im not totally onboard with a M3 beater all of a sudden. Their fast offerings are turbocharged straight liners - hardly drivers cars.

Their cabins are not bad, certainly nice places to be. But the quality of the interior is nothing special, german ones are a bit more sober and darker - but better screwed together.

I really like this, a very appealing package overall.

If it turns out that it drives as well as it looks, I'd be taking a trip to my local dealer sharp-ish.

If I had the money. Which I don't.

Looks like a nice car, big power output and a manual gearbox is a great power combination, I will be interested to see what they do to get around what could be a potentially very laggy setup. However, I am sure it will be a great drive, it's just a shame this thread has attracted an unusual number of morons.

Wouldn't be surprised if it went into production, a lot of people were shocked when the T5 came barrelling in.

Are you actually into cars or just a bit naive?

Now tell me again about these 'back yard' tuners and remember that;

1. Alpina have produced better cars than M works on occasion.
2. Snowballs in Sweden are bigger than they are in Germany.

Seriously do some reading before you post fking nonsense.

Thanks.

Clueless person is clueless.

Not everyone buys cars based on magazine reviews, not everyone buys cars based on image, not everyone buys cars because the last iteration of the model was good, not everyone buys cars for the same reasons.

Given all of the criteria for buying a new car it may or may not spank the Audi or BMW offering in all areas, but I would be shocked if it was bettered by the Germans in every area.

Im sure they can make a brilliant track car. But this wont be like a one-off build for racing. We are talking about production models in the hundreds, will they manage to strike a balance between on the road manners and trackwork?
Time will tell. I remain a sceptic.

Yeah this car will have to be bought despite all of the above wink

Best of luck to them, though I think it has no chance against the M3, doubt the boys in M would allow anyone to take their crown, especially someone that is not that big.
