I'll try posing a question:

It has a diesel engine with a higher specific output than a Honda S2000.

What is it?
BMW M550d (triple turbo)

We have a winner! (381ps from 3 litres is about 127ps/l)

The monkey reference was for this video by Chris Harris (nicknamed Monkey): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqERH9fky2Q&hd=...

Sorry..question fail!

The M3 was originally a 4 cylinder car (E30) from 1986 until 1992 (6 yrs)...
Then the E36 and E46 were 6 cylinder cars from 1993-99 (E36) & 2001-06 (11yrs in total)
The E9x series from 2007-12 were V8s
The new F8x M3 will revert to 6cyl motors, but will be the first forced induction M3
Oh bks. Forgot the 4-cylinder variants completely. I wasn't including the not yet launched F8x variant as its not with us.

Question:

This car is/was air cooled, rear mounted and manufactured by one of the worlds' major motor companies.

Widely derided on safety grounds, it nevertheless sold well and it isn't a VW.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and suggest it might have been a Chevrolet Corvair instead.

Another easy one then-

German, late 70's, built with Italian input in limited numbers for homologation

Ok, I'm going to get (maintain?) a reputation on here for correcting people's spelling.

Tatra? (Tata is Indian, Tatra is Czech)

Specifically the T603? Castro had one.
