What boring cars did you really desire once upon a time?

Ford Cortina 1.3 crossflow (automatic if available with the 1300). Either a Mk3 or Mk4 or Mk5. Beige paintwork. With vinyl seats, speedo and fuel-guage (blank-plates on everything else), no radio, and plain steel wheels with 165 tyres and no hubcaps. Yaaaawnnnn.
No, I don't want one either, but good contender if someone else does like them.

Ok, I didn't want any of these, but for anyone suffering with insomnia -
1970 Austin Maxi 1500 ("cable-operated gearchange") in maroon-red with brown vinyl seats.
Vauxhall Viva HC 1256 Estate in baby-sick-yellow.
Morris Marina 1275, has to be dark brown.
Austin Cambridge / Morris Oxford / whatever other badges they put on it, with flat paint.
Datsun 120Y saloooooon, metallic blue with crusty brown bits everywhere near the edges.
An Austin Allagro z z z z z z z z z z z z z z

BMW e30 316i. Why a 316i I have no idea as it was latterly realising how much more expensive it was to run and how much slower it was than the Pug 106 1.6 XSi I ended up buying that put an end to it. I spent a lot of money tuning that Pug too so often wonder what may have come of the BMW!
Sitting in the crew room many years ago with a bunch of lads talking about what cars we'd have if we suddenly became millionaires.
Everyone stated Countachs, Trans Ams etc (it was the early 90's), until it was Wayne's turn.
Now Wayne wasn't the brightest spark in the world, but after thinking long and hard he finally exclaimed in a thick Yorkshire accent-
"Eeh, I'd get a Vauxhall Cavalier SRi".
Aim for the stars Wayne, aim for the stars.

Recently we had a Granada Scorpio estate join the collection briefly, honestly it was one of the most comfortable and capable cars and definitely from a time when Ford could still do luxury properly. Massive inside and went relatively well too. Boring it certainly was, but not a bad car all the same.

A mint Granada 2.8i Ghia X Executive is in my fantasy garage. I agree Ford don't build them like they used to. Baz Tench said:
In 1987, I was 17 and learning to drive in an old Metro 1.3. I quite liked it and dreamed of owning a Vanden Plas, or at least the HLS model....in this colour too....
Mmmm, Metro in jewish racing gold! Nice! When I was 8 I desperately wanted dad to build a Beauford kit car to replace our crappy Sierra 1.6L, instead of buying a Montego 1.6L estate. My tastes have matured a bit since then thankfully.

Matra Rancho, looked really cool and offroad tough, but were in reality not that great. Still want a Citroen Mehari though....
Ahh yeah that used to be one of my favourite Matchbox cars!A lot of stuff on this thread as well.
Datsun 120Y
Ford Escort Eclipse
Ford P100
Renault Clio 1.9D RN (seriously)
Nissan 100NX
Rover 216
So many terrible cars from my childhood.
These are cars I wanted BEFORE I got my driving license... I started obsessing with cars at the age of 13-14, before the passion took off in summer 2001 when I bought a magazine with F50 in the main article (was 16 then). Anyway, this was when I was around 17 and dreamed about getting my driver certificate and didn't know **** about how much difference there was to how a car felt...
206 CC - now I think they're cars for spoiled girls:
This generation Megane - I don't know, I liked that it was different, now I think it's just a boring car with super boring engines:
I think I also liked these because they were somewhat attainable (new price) vs. the S2000 and Boxster which cost so much more new. Then I discovered the world of secondhand cars and never thought about a new car again... Unless I can afford a brand new BMW (favourite car maker), pick it up from factory and keep it forever.
