RE: Tunnel runners 'nutters' says MP
Discussion
Tosser.
'Live in the country' they said. 'make as much noise as you want' they said. 'Take your car/bike/quad to a track and make as much noise as you want!' they said.
Except you can't even do that. No worries, they won't be able to hear the screams from the local Labour MP's S+M club when they build another runway at heathrow.
FFS.
On a side note. I had to sign a petition a couple of weeks back for a small scrub of land that was being used, and has been used for a TRIALS bike track for about........30 years. The residenst nearby live under the flyover for the A30. If they're not listening to cars 24/7, then it's the solid *whump* of people jumping from the flyover to their demise below. Like I said TRIALS bikes. Top speed of about 5mph, Kickstart to those that don't know what I'm on about. Now, my memory is slightly foggy these days, but I don't EVER recall Peter Pervert having to bellow into the microphone like Brian Blessed to be heard. But oh no, here come some mildly aggitated scroats who moved to the county from Lahndahn town with a hair up their arse about a bit of noise 12 weekends of the year. If it was a motocross track then yes, the scream of a 2 stroke motor at full bore gets on my tits most of the time. But a trials bike? GET A GRIP!.
Rant over.

Does anyone actually live nearby ?
I would imagine if they do and they hear that every night it could get a bit annoying, most people don't care one iota whether its teenagers on mopeds making a racket or a Lamborghini Muira driven by Stirling Moss, it is just noise to them, they complain and their cause is taken up by an MP, whether the cars are within the speed limit or not, if in a low gear and being revved it makes a noise. I normally can appreciate the various engines being battered down the bypass near us but on a Sunday morning at 7am I dont care what it is, at 12pm I dont, it is like fireworks, dont want to hear them at 2am like the twunt the other day having a post club display.
All very well calling people NIMBY's but you tend to find everyone has an element of that, we as petrolheads need to consider our actions and the impact on others in society as if we dont, thats when we get legislated against.
There's residential blocks pretty much at every tunnel/underground area mentioned.I would imagine if they do and they hear that every night it could get a bit annoying, most people don't care one iota whether its teenagers on mopeds making a racket or a Lamborghini Muira driven by Stirling Moss, it is just noise to them, they complain and their cause is taken up by an MP, whether the cars are within the speed limit or not, if in a low gear and being revved it makes a noise. A Sagaris on the TVR run last year was hit by an egg on the bonnet, needed a not cheap respray, so more than likely some unhappy resident.

Not totally misinformed!
There are many groups who organise tunnel runs.
exactly. For instance this recent occurrence :There are many groups who organise tunnel runs.

Whom I might add have been confused with the London Tunnel Runners on more than one occasion.

As usual it's a case of blown up Daily Mail type propoganda, as there will be a few boy racers messing about, but most 'grown-up' tunnel run participants stick to the rules of the road, and whilst making noise in the tunnels don't cause any major disturbance to anyone...

We are easy targets, & you don't have do too much to legislate. It would not be too difficult to have db readers integrated into the camera's & hey presto NIP in the post, for being too noisy & most importantly the MP gets a pat on the back, gets into cabinet as he has just increased revenue for the council & government. It dreads me to think how much revenue this sort of action could bring, millions easily!
Plus they like to go after the hard working taxpayer, who will abide by the law, save up so he can buy a decent petrolhead motor & enjoy himself.
Trying to tackle the serious underlying problems we have, is too much hard work for politicians & MP's. Easy life to retirement ? Nice Pension etc etc etc Really nice example to set for all of us esp after the scandal of MP's expenses

We are at their mercy because we all want to keep our driving licenses and thus we are easily told how to behave. Not so easy to tell a smack head what to do because they really couldn't care less.
I genuinely think it would be easier to get away with smoking dope than it is to smoke tires!
That tunnel on the way into Rouen is a highlight of the drive down to LeMans.
Just did a little youtubing. Found Miss Banzai in the Westferry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDqyxoHxvJc quickly became bored with that. So looked for TVRs in the Laerdal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2cgew6w7es&pla... at 1.07 you'll find a Lamborghini Diablo doing donuts in the tunnel.
