4 cyl for me is slightly disappointing but i would take one (even with the suspected price gap) over the M135i every single time.
Why....
because it seems EVERYONE else out there would take the BMW and one of the reasons for buying such a car is to stand out from the crowd even if its just a little bit.
Err....if you imagine that buying an M135i makes you stand out from the crowd, you're sorely mistaken (unless that crowd has petrol for blood). Provided it's not painted a "look at me!" colour, it blends into the background very effectively for something so potent - most people don't give it a second glance. Why....

Am I alone in not caring greatly for the "my first Mercedes" interior styling? I poked about in one at Goodwood and didn't really like the interior. The new A3's interior is streets ahead in all respects.
I meant i would take the A45 OVER a M135i so that in a crowd of M135i's i would stand out and not being a sheep who all flock to the mighty Bavarian motor works call...

Missed my point completely.

Setting aside the silly sheep comment, I'm not sure a crowd of M135is is ever likely to be a common event on UK roads, nor a crowd of A45s. But if you go in for the dubious sport of cutting off your own nose to spite your face, knock yourself out.I meant i would take the A45 OVER a M135i so that in a crowd of M135i's i would stand out and not being a sheep who all flock to the mighty Bavarian motor works call...

Seriously, who buys these cars?
Apart from pub bragging, I can't imagine there to be any life or soul to the driving experience in a car like this. It also looks s

At least with an M135i you can have a bit of tail out action and preferably specify it with a manual box.
Another case of lost identity for a big manufacturer in search of more sales.
to answer your first question my wife wants one. Will be safer for her to drive than an m 135i (she much prefers fwd than rwd for everyday use) and she hasn't had a merc yet.Apart from pub bragging, I can't imagine there to be any life or soul to the driving experience in a car like this. and if she did get one , i would quite happily have plenty of "goes" in it.

Skimmed the thread, so I may have missed if anyon has raised this, but I thought the M135 was going to be available with x-drive, which is a proper rear bias 4wd system as opposed to a pretend one?

Pretty aggressive looking thing, bet the M135i will piss all over it though.
If current form stands then the Beemer is going to be the quicker A to B car. I think AMG normally scors over the thrill of the drive from being a bit more raw.My view is that Merc interiors are more pleasant than BMW which is a bonus point, the 4wd is also a bonus for the few times in the year when it comes into its own versus RWD and I think it has a larger boot?
I would certainly want to compare this to the xDrive 135i which they are saying won't be done in RHD but I'm not yet convinced of that.

Creating a brand with a following of appreciating petrol heads is a microscopic cherry on the top for Mercedes. Sales come first even if it is pushing pointless products, if there is a market for them then they should make it. Lots of sales of things we are not particularly intereted in allows them produce a very small number of things that we are interested in every once in a while.
