i would accept that "we all look the same" and get on with the point actually being made as opposed to discussion stopping semantics.
So do all asians look the same?Funny, now you mention it there was a program on TV about India the other night and I did think it was china at first...
Let's get real for a second, shall we!!! If you got a load of generic pictures of people of different nationalities and got 1,000 people to point at an asian, they would point at someone from India/Pakistan/sri lanka/ bangladesh etc.
The numbers who would point at a chinese person or a mongol would be vanishingly small. So stop being glib

I think we tie ourselves in knots sometimes trying to not offend, though I dont exactly want to go back to when people were like the Major out of Fawlty Towers, that said, even he was a creation, back in 1976 to parody your average racist berk.
If people get offended by something, Its usually because they know (deep down) its true - and don't like it being highlighted because, out of their own insecurity, they think people will use it against them/think less of them.
If people where more confident and self assured about themselves and their racial groups (or infact any grouping) they would laugh the comment off or find it interesting that someones noticed it, or even joke about it themselves. By getting pissy about it, it just divides people, when there was no malice meant.
If someone points out something unusual about me I do lots or am particularly crap at- I just either laugh about it with them, or ignore it knowing its not founded on truth.
Basically, the race card pisses me off and everyone should lighten up a bit.

I don't mind someone referring to myself as asian - see my other thread re pc gone mad.
What I don't like is if someone is having a go, to at least not go the effort of expanding that definition.
Here is one example why I hate the term when applied in a negative manner - tarring every asian with the same brush, when I highly suspect they are referring to a sub-set with a fundamentally different outlook on life...

Last time i looked, neither koreans, japanese, chinese, hindus etc. were involved in something so disgusting in the UK in a systematic way.
Therein lies my frustration...

If you're referring to religion (which I suspect you are), then it has nothing to do with it. These atrocities are purely caused by the sick and twisted nature of a few individuals, it could be anyone of any ethnic background from any religion, eg this, or the example you've posted yourself.
Not trying to justify these horrific acts in any way, shape or form, IMO it's purely a cultural problem within a minority of the community, and we must all work together to prevent these sort of things from occurring.
