Excellent vid, 11/10. Ta
But, I'm curious... IIRC, when Car mag tested the F40 when it was new, its test team didn't rate it because the set-up was much too firm/skittish on road, yet it had too much roll/slop on track. In short, it was a spartan, poorly finished track-type car that didn't work on a track.
Yet, every car journo who drives an F40 today seems to rate it as the dog's doo-dahs.
All of which begs the following questions: have F40 owners revamped their cars' OE suspension? Or was Car's test car a duffer? Or did Car get it wrong? Or are current road testers so overwhelmed by the F40's 'analogue' spec compared to today's computer-aided equivalents that they're ignoring/oblivious to the shortcomings that were apparent to Car?
At it's launch Car slagged it off as being conceived by cynics who know how to make a car desirable (might not have quite the right words but very close to that) for being a race car that would never see the track. Once they drove it they loved it, and it even saw the track in the BPR series.
Wow.
Now all we need is a motoring show for proper enthusiasts hosted by Chris.
Monkey's Motors or Harris' Horsepower!
Seriously though, this video was fantastic and with the F40 being my all time favourite, I want it even more. Cannot ignore the F50 and loved the noise and the look of the engine and the suspension bolted onto it. AND I found THE tape

I don't think you will top that, Chris. Stunning.
I am not the type to get jealous and think on the whole we get we deserve. But watching that, I wanted your life!
Thank you to the owner of those cars. You know what it means to be a motoring enthusiast and every person who enjoys this video owes you a debt of gratitude.
And last but not least, what a bonus to hear Mr Hales's contribution. He speaks so eloquently, and in an understated way that makes me think I would happily hand him the keys to any car I owned to get his considered view on it. He can PM me to prove it anytime. A gentleman who has been wrongly maligned, in my view, and I'll put my (meagre) metal where my mouth is to back up that statement.

Of course it was a joke 1-series is a shopping trolley which have a good performance but totally dull and numb althogeter. Number one answer in PH tho...
These two cars? Jesus.... I love that video, one of the best car vids what i have ever seen. Totally classic. Would James Bond drive those cars? Definetly yes!
James Bond. The man who drove a 7 series, a Z3, a Mondeo and a Ka. Why, exactly, is he* relevant? These two cars? Jesus.... I love that video, one of the best car vids what i have ever seen. Totally classic. Would James Bond drive those cars? Definetly yes!
- Don't take this too badly, but he is not actually a real person.
Saw an F40 being driven, in so much as was possible, quickly, in Monaco last week.
No video ever does the sound of the F40 justice, you MUST hear one being driven hard in person to understand how savage it sounds and how much charisma it has in person.
That said, it still looks wonderful on pictures and videos.

I should have there when Mark drove the F40 but I was stupid and let work stop me.
I asked Mark afterward about the F40 and he said something like 'I's a very fast race car, on the road ....'
The audio tape is very good - I've lost my copy and the mp3 some one sent me a few years ago - but if anyone or even PH could find it and let everyone have a listen I doubt anyone would be disappointed.
All I can remember is Mark doing a warm up lap (in the F40) and talking about 'stuff' then flooring it coming onto the start/finish straight and as Mark said Becky was very impressed!
