Our Cayenne is exactly a year old, and has done 8,000 miles. It has lost less than 10% of its value. Not too many "Dull SUV's" have those sort of residuals.
Guessing it must be the diesel, the petrol ones dont fare that well.

Cracking car. They will sell loads of them.

This, and the Cayenne, are the cars Jaguar should be making.

Come to that, if Aston Martin don't come up with an SUV pretty soon I think they're doomed. Aston should go begging to MB to let them use the M class platform.

Compact, handles well, gobbles the family and the dog, 0-60 in 5 seconds or 6 seconds and 40mpg, sublime interior, incredibly comfortable (if it is like the Q5) and rock solid residuals.

Yeah, you would have to be a fkwit to buy one. rolleyes
I don't think anyone (well not me) said you'd be a F***wit to buy one.

However lets be honest here. It's not compact, it's not lightweight, by design non-suv style vehicles of the same size would gobble much bigger (and more) dogs and 40mpg in day to day driving is highly unlikely.

Rock solid residuals?? Only a crystal ball could state that...

To many, whether you are or not, these are a fashion statement.... Stop by a school (particularly one where I've worked) at 8.30 am and see for yourself.

edit - 'these' is vehicles of this genre.

Well if our Cayenne can show 37mpg over the varied 8,000 miles we have done in it, I see no reason for the Macan not to better that.

Cayenne residuals are rock solid so it's a fair assumption this will follow suit.

Just because somebody doesn't like what you like it doesn't make them a 'hater'

I've had vehicles like these, while living in the Australian bush and living in The Middle East. They're fine in places like that but for me I don't see the point in them here in the UK.

They're not nice to look at, too heavy, use too much fuel and are no better for carrying loads or people than a decent estate or event some saloons.

Just looked at prices, and Macan Diesel costs almost the same as Cayenne Diesel. Cayenne is only £4k more expensive (£43k vs. £47k)

Interesting thing is that Cayenne with 400 horsepower is actually £2k cheaper than Macan with 400 horsepower. And also Cayenne is V8, while Macan is V6T.

This will be my biggest NO THANKS of the year!

There is no car on this planet I think I would like less to spend my money on, certainly not £40k+

Sh!ty, soap shapped, auto SUV crossovers are not something any car enthusiast should ever admit to taking any interest in.

For now though it's seemingly a 258hp/428lb ft version of the V6 single-turbo from Panamera and the SQ5 driving through the same basic powertrain as the petrol models. Interestingly party politics have permitted the Audi 313hp and 479lb ft - and the eight-speed ZF auto.
Morning all (on LA time)!

Good to see the banter flowing on the Macan; more observations from the event on the blog. Also, it's been brought to my attention there was an error in the reference to the SQ5 where I referred to it having 230hp - it's 230kw, equating to 313hp. Apologies and story now corrected!

Cheers,

Dan

There's no disputing that it will be a cracking all rounder. You have to accept that being a car enthusiast 365 days a year doesn't really work - how does that mentality go with 15,000 commuter miles and a family to please?

To date, the facelift Cayenne Diesel is probably the best all-round car i've driven. The fact that it will be available in a more compact package makes it massively appealing to me as an every day car; something which can do a bit of everything whilst carrying a little cachet.

I understand Audi top brass were quite surprised how much Porsche changed this from the Q5's underpinnings. Looking forward to the road tests, but my deposit was slapped down today!
