Really? You think the "business brains and the number crunchers" at McLaren, led by Ron Dennis, had bigger balls to take risks than Lotus led by Colin Chapman? That's a bold claim, and one that I would suggest completely contradicts the relative financial positions of the 2 companies. McLaren has taken very solid, business/number-led decisions. Historically, a Lotus built engine is the exception, rather than the rule, and Colin Chapman was intuitive rather than a number cruncher.
I do agree that Dany Bahar's vision was bold; I am not sure I would go so far as "wisdom" as I thought the styling of many of the Paris concept cars was derivative and uninspiring.
I would be intrigued to try a drive in a 4C; however, given most of the UK road tests to date, I am not sure I would look forward to it necessarily.
Edited to add: for the avoidance of doubt, whilst I find them hard to love, I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for McLaren and everything it has achieved.
if your choose Colin Chapman for lotus then you would be comparing him with Bruce Mclaren at McLaren ....and Bruce did have very big kahunas !

That is exactly why it gets knocked. Everyone wants Alfa to produce a decent sporty car, and when they do everyone starts about Caymans being more comfy and in the end they all step into their grey Golfs and drive home from work. That is the way the herd works.
Well said sir.I'm a bit of an Alfa fanboy anyway but I love the 4C. I've been in one around millbrook and its an amazing bit of kit.
It pisses me off that everyone was originally comparing it to a cayman. It is NOTHING like the cayman. It's such a unique car that the motoring press literally were all scratching their balls with their fingers up their arses as they have no idea what they could compare it to. Then as soon as some smart arse realised the performance and price was close to a cayman that's what they went for as the obvious comparison.
There is no other car like it on the market so you can't compare it to anything else in my opinion.
