Gutted for you mate frown

I've been a victim quite a few times!

206 GTi: Brick through the window
5 GT Turbo: 'W' scratched into arch (maybe aiming for wker but gave up lol)
Some crappy Corsa: Coins thrown at car (whilst I was driving it)
My brother's Impreza also got keyed on two separate occasions

None of the above were worth more than a few grand, so obviously not jealously, just bored chavs I guess. Why can't they just go smoke a spliff like the old days.

Yep I'm going to have to fix it as it's a lease and goes back in March.
Would insurance cover it?

I am not a violent person, but I'd like to smack whoever did that. It's such a cowardly, beneath contempt thing to do. Gutting to have to pay out for this.

Four months on from the first incident and I've become a victim again. And so have many of my neighbours. FUMING.

On our friends road in our area everyone was hit multiple times. No one knows who and there are no asb's in the area. I had a hunch that maybe it wasn't youths but maybe someone disgruntled over the competition for parking spaces on one stretch. I think I said at the time 'anyones car not keyed at all'? Worth a look as someone has gone personal on your car. To much effort to be someone merely passing through

Friend of mine had his 6 year old Mazda 3 done.

Stayed overnight at a (tinder) friends place.

Cctv picked up an old woman damaging it then going back into her house. Apparently she's done it before. Police didn't care.
Use the CCTV for a small claims court claim. Cost of damage + court costs will be more than any criminal damage penalty she would get.

Was just pondering, what would we all do if we happened upon someone in the act of vandalising our car ?

I am not sure how I would react.

We did

we heard three drunk teeangers walking up the middle of the road,
most of the neighbours went out and a few hand big long scratched on them,
rang the police, told them which way they were heading, didnt want to know,
ten minutes later they walked back, we could hear them so we all hid in our porches and jumped out of them,
rang the police told them weve got them along with a huge screwdriver and they were here in seconds
all denied it unitl they were in seperate vans, out of harms way, then admitted it, one was let go, two were given riddiculous fines which will never be paid off

My brother came up against this, about 15 years ago. He'd just finished work, and was walking back to his car (a shed of a Nova). As he got closer, he could see a guy standing next to the car, head down, back to him.

As my brother got closer, it was obvious the guy was attempting to break into his car. He got about three paces behind the would-be car thief, and just stood there, pondering his next move. The scrote with the slimjim made the decision for my brother, by turning round to see who was behind him.

My brother instinctively lamped him across the chops, sending the nasty piece of work flying backwards into the car - he smacked his head on the a-pillar as he went down, and hit the deck like a sack of potatoes.

Not wanting to give scrote-boy the opportunity to get up again, my brother jumped in his car and sped off. laugh

As a few others have remarked, the only time it happened to me CCTV identified the culprit as an old chap walking his dog (who sadly couldn't be identified from the footage).

Judging by this thread old people seem to be prolific car-keyers. Maybe they do classes in it at the British Legion or Saga run courses. Who knows.

So, here's a bit of a thread update for you...

My Audi A4 that was keyed twice (see beginning of this thread for pics) was picked up by BCA a week ago at the end of the lease. Thankfully the chap was an ex-copper and was very sympathetic for the damage and the total cost charged on his inspection sheet was £295. I'm still waiting on the final paperwork to confirm the final cost to me, but the moral of the story in this example is to not bother getting key damage fixed on a lease through VWFS as they seem pretty reasonable.

The only caveats are that 1. My mileage was well below the limit so that means I might be given more leeway and 2. My next lease is also through VWFS so that might give me some leverage if I need to contest the final costs.

The tts who damaged my car should really be getting a boot up the arse and the invoice through their letterbox though!

Received the final bill from VWFS last week and it came to £295 as per the BCA chap's estimate. That's very reasonable in comparison to what it'd probably have cost me to rectify the damage before I handed the car back at the end of the lease.

Still pissed off though that some tt has left me almost 300 notes lighter for no apparent reason.

I feel sorry for you mate.

I would be enraged if that were to happen to me.

Although, I have to confess I wanted to key more than a few cars because of the way they parked. As I mentioned before I have a small baby and I go nuts when idiots completely block the sidewalk and leave no room for the stroller.

Sorry again mate, wouldn't want it to happen to any decent person.

Personally I wouldn’t want it to happen to anyone, decent or not.

I had my last car done for no apparent reason, other than maybe parking outside the wrong house.

The boot of the wife's SLK was keyed a year or so back, when she visited a friend and parked in a section of road that wasn't in front of anyone's house, whilst they went off for a long pre marathon run..

Turns out a neighbour with more cars than space usually parks his works van there, and considers it his spot.

When challenged by wife's friend he stupidly admitted to doing it and was subsequently convinced to pay in cash for the respray.
