A 700kg payload?? What payload do you possibly think would weight 700kg?
Four big guys could easily be 600kg, don't forget.
Easily be 150kg each?? How many 24 stone men do you know that often travel together??

It's vulgar.
A Rolls should not be vulgar.
They always have been.
Only when you have a 'Spirit of Ecstasy' shaped chip on your shoulder.
Ostentatious displays of wealth have always been vulgar. Whether you consider vulgarity to be a bad thing is another matter. I guess that depends which chips you have on your shoulder.
I don't think vulgar can ever really be a good accolade to bestow?

But I'd disagree that Rolls Royces have always been an 'ostentatious display of wealth'.
What saloon car would you suggest IS an ostentatious display of wealth, if not a Rolls Royce?

Now imagine what it'd weigh without that.

Just 700kg payload (including obligatory pluted bloatocrats) before it hits the 3.5t GVW limit...

Why anyone would splash out £250k plus options on that monstrosity is mind boggling.
Because a Bentaygo is just too cheap and too common.

When a medium sized saloon now weights 2-tonnes, the extra 800kg for this isn't that comical.
+1 I don't think there are many cars that have a rated load capacity of more than 700kg. Also Range Rover's weigh anywher from 2.3 to 2.6 tonnes. This isnt exactly a massive leap.

I love it. I don't need one, I also don't need my Discovery but everytime I drive pothole britain in a regular hatch or estate I'm reminded why I like a tall, soft and comfortable car for 90% of my journeying driving.

I don't really think any unmodified car is an ostentatious display of wealth.

54 gold bars.
A common problem for you?
Good Lord no. Carrying one’s own gold around is a vulgar, new money Northern type of thing.

With a range of, at best, 300 miles, any owner will have to encounter the great unwashed at least twice on the way down to the Alps. Is there no long range fuel tank option?

Opulent ridiculousness. I love it.

I hate SUVs but these mega expensive, mega powerful ones are hilarious.

The ride is something rather special, I doubt any other car is or has been as good as this is. If only this tech would filter down to the level we peasants could afford.

On the scale of things I'm sure parked up next to a last gen Phantom Coupe it will look small.

Does it drive over £100k better than a Range Rover?

I think it could have looked a little better if it was longer rather than the London cab shape it currently has. I don't think the headlights do it any favours either. From the rear it is not bad but the front is hardly elegant.

I understand the business case for it but like the first gen Cayenne, current Bentayga, grafting traditional styling cues on to a 'high sided vehicle' never works. The new 2020 Range Rover when it comes out will be the one to watch in this class, especially if it has the 48-volt active anti roll system so it finally handles.

After WW2 a relative of mine bought pre-war Rolls Royces which nobody wanted because of fuel rationing and chopped the back part of the body off and turned them into pickup trucks for his farm. I think this monstrosity costing more than a small farm would have him turning in his grave,
Newton Oils used converted Royce cars as delivery trucks. The centre car ON 1700 was damaged by 'enemy action' in December 1940.

Did you ever stop to calculate that at an average 1 minute per post you’ve wasted nearly 20 days of your life in the past 5 years posting this rubbish?

At a 500 gbp daily rate that equates to 10,000 in lost labour you could have been doing something more productive.

This explains your disdain for the wealthy. While you are sat around creating imaginary scenarios of fat men driving around in Rolls Royce’s requiring a LGV license the rest of society is doing something more productive.

Reading the replies to this is my afternoon's entertainment sorted.

I'm tempted to start a game of PH Bingo:

One argument about how a lack of live axles and low range gearbox means it isn't a Proper Off-Roader.

One argument about why anyone needs an SUV and shouldn't RR make an estate instead

One argument about the four wheel drive system and how Winter Tyres on a BMW 535d are all you ever really need, you know.

One argument about how "the locals" in the alps all drive round in Fiat Panda 4x4's and how all the crashes occur when british drivers in German cars don't understand mass transfer so there is no reason what-so-ever to buy a big 4x4 for your one week skiing a year

One argument about how it isn't a "Proper" Rolls Royce

One argument about how it's the New BMW x7 underneath, you know

One argument about how all drivers of this ever do is drop their kids (or brats) off at the local private school, parking inconsiderately and how it's only been bought on finance to impress other school run mums

And one argument about how anyone who spends £300k on this should buy a fleet of caterhams (for the handling balance) and a Honda Jazz (It's the most practical and reliable car ever and no-one needs anything else, unless you're a show-off or don't properly understand rural living)

Any others to add?

Not a fan of the styling but I do love it. Everything a Rolls-Royce should be (big, comfortable and luxurious)..... Very much in keeping with the Rolls-Royce ethos!
