Thing I love most about these engines is the interchangeable parts, e.g you can put LS2 heads on an LS1 for more performance and even though my car came with a 2005 LS1, it now has a 4th gen LSA from a 2016 Camaro ZR1. Running the same sump, water pump, ECU etc from my old engine. LS7 is still an amazingly exotic engine but you can easily buy and tune an LS3 so it makes the samenor more power. Then you have the iron blocks which are purpose built for boost like the LSX 376 B15 which is essentially an iron LS3 with lower comp ratio. Simply add a pair of turbos and it will comfortably make 1000-1500hp. The LT4 and 5 engines are different again but essentially the same architecture albeit supercharged. Capable of 800hp our if the box without breaking a sweat.

Compare the longevity of these to the crap they put into BMWs these days. I’d say the ideal replacement for a modern M3 or M5 that’s blown it’s engine.

My LS3 in my M3 is quite a bit lighter than the S54 it replaced.
Also as a result of the LT5 crate, I've been offered a LT4 to replace the LS3.
Decisions decisions...

Yes please. Put me down for two.
One for my Griff (sportmotive have done loads of LS conversions) and one for my land cruiser 80 as per Icon/Jonathan Ward in the US.
Connect and cruise x 2. Wonder if they do a Black Friday BOGOF?
Man maths means running two identical engines makes complete economic sense - bulk buying oils, plugs etc, easier spares stocking...
Haven’t completely nailed the figures down but I’m right on this, yes?
Absolutely. I shall likewise put one in my Chim and another in my Forester STI. No more worries about the cost to reach 300bhp and ringland failure for me.

One of these in an e46 M3 would keep me happy for many years, I reckon!

This is an LS OHV motor and a V6 (yes six) from a Nissan 350z. A modern DOHC V8 would be bigger again.

LS on the left

This is the LS and the Lexus V8. LS on the right this time

And this is the LS and a Mazda inline 4

If you read up on the Dev story of the C5 Corvette it will mention that the bonnet line is so low specifically because of the OHV engine. And that it wouldn't be possible if they had used a DOHC one.

And let's not forget, GM had the Northstar V8, a DOHC advanced engine. With 100,000 major service intervals. But GM dropped this for the more compact LS engines that made more power.

As compact as it is I still don't think I could squeeze it in my elise! Not that I'll ever really be able to afford or justify the price of an engine swap like that!

So, anyway. That 755hp ZL1 engine. What car would yours go into?
S2000 cloud9hehe
For a s2000 I’d go for a LSA. They are cheaper and can still make big power (800bhp) with bolt on parts. They are also a lot cheaper from GM than the LT4/5.

However the LT4 (the 5 is VERY TALL) mught fit better. Craig from dyno torque has recently done a LT4 into a e92!

Pretty much as expected, Mopar used SEMA to reveal it's latest crate motor - a mere 1000hp 426ci supercharged hemi. The return of the "Elephant".

Not really, as MOPAR returned the Elephant as a crate engine ages ago.....

This is more like a baby Elephant.......

I assume that you refer to the Gen 3 iron-block Apache 426 - somewhat light on power (to the tune of 400hp) compared to this "Baby Elephant" would you not agree?

Err, nope.

None of this so-called Gen3 stuff can be called Elephant, that's why I said BabyElephant......its got nothing to do with power output, the Hemi was christened Elephant because of its physical size, not its capacity. These so-called Gen3 things are thus not and never will be Elephant motors.
And even the term Baby Elephant has even already been used back in the sixties, as a term of reference to the smaller first gen Dodge Red Ram hemi's from the early 50's.
