hehe

It's laughably bad but I kind of like it for how 80s it is, including the British Leyland construction of it.

A theoretical range of 500 miles at 200 mph cruising speed should be enough, and would allow for a rest stop every couple of hours.

Also, does it have sufficient luggage space for its three occupants, like the F1 did?
How many cars have a 500 mile range at 200mph? I'm going to say none. Not even close. Even if you're getting 10mpg that's a 50 gallon tank, so that's over 225 litres....

We also don’t have roads anywhere that are suitable for 200mph “cruising”. 200mph is not cruising. Look how difficult it was for the OEMs chasing top speed to even find anywhere to test. If you’ve never been to high speed, 150+ on the public road you’re very aware of the consequences of fking up even slightly, even on derestricted autobahn which is basically as good a circumstance as it gets without leaving real roads.

I think I just about deciphered that.

Sorry but being different is not where I'd be putting my money, where have beautiful designs gone? Well if this stuff sells, keep churning it out. But it's not to my taste, it's awful to be honest.

Sorry for being a pedant, but an ever increasing number of posts on this site are just shocking.

I think what is happening here with the ultimate series, is that McLaren are returning to type - pure engineering. They aren't interested in the absolute 'beauty' of the car in lieu of "a fast car is a beautiful one" as is the addage in racing.

So this car is the shape it is because it's the most efficient for aero, considering the rest of the parameters they need to work within (quite an upright glasshouse). The front wheel covers reduce drag, stick 'em on. The really long tail is better for tail vortices, go for it.

Same with the Senna - it's beauty is in its lap times and capability.

I can see why there is some controversy over the 720s lights (personally I like them) and also the Senna's brutal looks (again I like it). However there is no controversy over the looks of this one, it's hideous. Speedtail they should have called it the Fuglytail!

Well I’m impressed with that comeback, and to be clear...there is not even the slightest hint of sarcasm in this post. Have a good weekend!

You're clearly a man who likes playing with fire. He's an ex-Para! He knows how to kill a man! Use advanced forms of wit and written humour at your peril Kawasicki...

i can see what they are trying to achieve, it just the glass house which doesn't work for me, somehow its too cab forward and too tall to gel with the swooping rear...

thing is, i personally can forgive the Senna as it doesn't really matter what it looks like, its a balls out track day hyper car.

but presumably the speedtail should be the most beautiful car in the world? or was that not its brief?
No, it wasn't its design brief. Its design brief was to be aerodynamic. You saying it's too "cab forward" shows your lack of aerodynamic understanding, as having a long "teardrop" shape behind is more aerodynamic, so if the cab was further back, this couldn't be achieved. So you can forgive the Senna for its looks because it's fitting its design brief, yet can't with this for fitting its design brief?
Sure, I know absolutely nothing about aerodynamics, kind of wish I did as it must be fascinating (that’s not an ironic response by the way, i would find it genuinely interesting).

My pyromaniac years are behind me...I’m still enjoying mild psychopathic tendencies though, so yeah...

It does not get any better the more I look at it. Longer than a 7-series and with that tail-end does not immediately say "usable in the city". Tim is so excited about it (as he always is) but it smacks of Emporer's New Clothes. It's not easy to understand visually and it's far from a beauty.

As far as I'm concerned, it needs the aero covers for the rear wheels as well. I know it's a subjective thing but odd wheels is a look that never works for me.

This is how I'd prefer it.

Got a bit carried away in Photoshop, though...

Might as well go all in.

"Yes, m'lady."

The top pic with the wheel covers on front & back actually improves the look for me ..
