I’m not saying that I can’t understand why 90’s jap cars are going up in value I’m saying that the amount being asked for some is ridiculous especially like this grey one that was half the price a few years ago and didn’t even sell back then.

To put it in perspective the white one I’m about to show that’s owned by mishimoto and up for sale for 13.5k is worth every single penny! Anyone that saw it magazine featured or in the flesh at japfest will vouch for the spec and how clean it is. If I had the money I would have it tomorrow. I guess I’m just gutted because All the jap stuff will be out of reach by the time I don’t need a diesel anymore.

And yes I’m well aware the bodies on the 185 and 205 are very different, that’s not what I was getting at but I can’t be arsed to turn this in to a big argument
I think they perhaps wisely didn't sell it yet. I'd be gutted if I were the owner and undersold it because I didn't understand values were rising. If it were mine I wouldn't sell it now, as it's only going to continue to go up in value.
At least we can agree on that.

As for the while one, most people don't want heavily modified cars of this nature nowadays, due to insurance difficulties, unreliability from hard use, etc. (it probably doesn't even have a back seat any more judging by the roll cage?).

These being collector's pieces now, all the more reason for truly original & mint examples to be worth more - seems logical, really. Not interested in getting into an online argument either!

The days of plentiful Celica GT-4’s are over. Check back in a few years’ time and see the difference then...

Indeed...when I got my first GT4 st185.

There were a few 165s still kicking about.

Loads of 185s so much so if you needed spares it was almost cheaper to buy one to part out.

205s were still quite expensive and flowing in from Japan.

165s and 185s are now almost non existant....presmably 205s will go the same way with the remaining good ones commanding strong money as the supply dries up.

Yes the mag feature one I know the previous owner and it was an utter money pit, looked great but was not properly done and you will most likely end up spending more of a fortune getting it right. Guy on the gt4 forum has a purple one which he has done properly, doesn't look as glamorous but mechanically a better car running 400bhp.

I had an import ST185 GT4A back in the day! Pretty rare with full leather and wide arches like the Carlos Sainz, came with the premium sound system, 8” woofers in the doors which was mad for door speakers! Did a little bit to it, remap & HKS Super Dragger system.

Nice car but my mates standard Pulsar would hammer it.

Ha! Yeah one of the lads in the army had one running around 350hp, that went through a couple boxes!

Rapid though!

I like the way people bemoan the price of a £15k GT4 yet a 50k Escort Cosworth no one bats an eye lid. Even back then the Escort was old technology and the Celica space-age. Please remind me how many championships the Cossie won and how many the Celica did?

UK obsession with Fords! The Cossie was no where near as good on the WRC as Celica. It's just a UK wanting to relive the youth thing driving up prices to daft levels.

I can remember when it first appeared like 5 or 6 years ago for 8k. Engine must need a rebuild after all the time it has been sitting. These things do not like sitting around I can assure you!

It doesn’t seem too bad at all to me when you see the price of comparable Integrales and Escorts

Davide Cironi did a nice clip of all 3

Found a pic of my old ST205 GT4 the other day, M reg with a TRD rear wing and Recaro seats. I paid £2500 for it in 2008 after selling a slightly rough L reg ST205 that I'd bought for £1800!

Wish they still cost that, they were great cars smile

I paid £2200 for mine in 2012 with 54k on it. Now on 69k and fully restored. Insured for 30k Crazy really.

Oh dont get me wrong, I totally agree. This country go mad for old Fords and pay well over the odds.

But in terms of what prices are now for GT4s that seems like a lot of money for something which the previous owner said to me was a complete money pit and didnt see it ever changing.
