I wonder if we could set up some kind of addiction therapy group where we meet up and swap cars between us all for a month or so at a time. Would be cheaper than buying and get to satisfy the cravings for trying all types of cars.

Or is that just crazy talk.
Sounds more like a wife swap to me...!
hehe but no I'll keep my little collection all to myself..driving

I have 5 just now, have been cutting them down

Range Rover l322 as a daily.
Nissan 200sx as a semi project/just finished engine rebuild so should be on the road as the toy soon.
My old 520d touring I just havent got round to giving a Mot to sell.
84 Bmw 323i which was rotten, got 90% of welding done and just kind of forgot to finish it, been under a cover for a year or so.
72 Silver shadow which was a drunken ebay purchase, got the engine running, bought a new rear arm but discovered you have to drop the subframe to do so just havent done it yet.

I am back up to being a 5 car family since the weekend. Love them all and very different driving experiences:

- Caterham Superlight
- Elise S1 Sport 160
- BMW E36 328 - "Clubsport" spec
- Forester STI
- Nissan Note Auto (the wife's)
If you had to choose between the caterham and the Elise (as a fun only car), which would you choose and why? They’re both on my list as contenders for 3rd car...

Just discussing a third car with the missus. Just the two of us and this has taken about five years to cultivate to this point.
Needs are:

Me: Car for work - needs to be less than 5 years old and have more than 4 doors. Do 20k a year. Currently lease is up on an S4 and going in to a Volvo S90.Chasing the lease deal rather than the car. Nearly all cars on the market that are well specced are fine to do a 300 mile trip in.

Her: Works Flexible from home needs to put a smile on her face and a *bit* of practicality ( you can get 4 bags of bark chippings in a z4 Coupe and drive it biggrin )
C63AMG Coupe.

The new request is for something practical and 5 doors to put the dogs in and not worry about interiors. Under 5k nice to drive, and fun if possible.

I've been looking at german compact estates, and she's currently looking at 197 Clios, Fiesta STs and Mini Cooper S's

Watching Jay Leno or even Harry (Metcalfe's) Garage shows that even owning a few cars is small fry. Okay, they're rich, but with cheap cars about its easy to rack up your own collection.

For me, I think 5 is a good number to stick to.

Or 7.

Currently on 3, but will be shuffling the deck soon and will likely end up as 4.

Camaro : weekend fun car. Long term keeper.
Cayenne : family bus. Hardly worth anything now, but super comfy and big so will probably keep.
Audi TT : wifeys runabout but going in a few months.

Also thinking of adding a Focus ST or a Scirocco.

Not quite at hoarder level, i love the idea a big fleet of cars but it would really mess with my practical sensibilities as we don't do many miles and they'd never get used.

Elise as it's more usable more of the time -
It is all the car you need in many ways and van really do it all. Having lots of cars becomes a pain if you just don't use one/a few of them.

However, they are very different drives and ultimately on the right road on the right day, the Seven is possibly the bigger hit.

My Elise is however far from standard and is as hardcore as a Caterham which helps the decision. If it was a standard Seven vs a standard Elise, then the Caterham would probably take it. There are lots of different Elise/Caterham specs which does mean that few cars are the same.

Definitely go for a test drive in both, ideally on a rainy day to help make your mind up.

Not exactly a hoarder ,I don't have a garage and I live in London

Mine:-
Audi A6 - 2.7 Quattro - My daily /tip runner/family lugger
SAAB 900 Turbo (classic) - gets driven once or twice a month - needs a respray.
Kawasaki ER6F, not ridden much this year as I spend all my spare time with my baby son.

My wife drives a CX-3, I occasionally use it.

If I had a garage, there would be more cars and bikes.

I’m down to 1 daily and 1 polisher now (and have a toddler and a 7 month old instead. Obviously an amateur (a friends’ boy friend has 25 +... including 3 E30 325i’s), but when I had no children and a disposable income I rented a lovely temp controlled unit that housed the following:

1998 Jaguar X308 XJR
1989 Jaguar XJ40 Sovereign (and 40,000 miles)
1993 Series 3 Daimler Double Six
1981 E21 BMW 323i

Plus a couple of daily’s

They’ve all found new homes now..... I’d have kept the twin tanker and the E21 had I had the chance.

I've got a few, not got a problem more of a passion

2012 Fiat 500 Twinair for the girls in my family
1988 Gen 1 Toyota 4Runner for Alpine summer/ski fun, still need to register it
1994 Gen 2 Toyota 4Runner 3.0TD, ex-Tiggy Winkles Bambi Rescue Ambulance and my very much loved daily commuter/cross continent family wagon
1989 Porsche 930, my first Porsche and needs a light restoration to make perfect
1994 Porsche 964 C2, for mountain road hooning, multi-coloured and dented, stripped to the bare bones and goes like stink

Started building a 4 car garage so I can hoard some more, top of my to buy list are,

BMW E38 740i, luxury cruiser
Peugeot 205 GTi, fills the hot hatch hole in my collection
BMW 630i, always wanted a big GT coupe
Audi R8 V8 but would mean a Porsche has to go, not sure I could do that
Audi A6 3.0TDi Quattro Avant, more refined cross continent family wagon

Personally I think that would be a great idea as I love driving different cars. I used to belong to a couple of the cheaper classic car clubs for just that reason. I now have a few of my own but still hanker to drive (if not own) other cars..

My current “fleet” consists of an eclectic but cheapish (when I bought them) mix of stuff...

Clio V6
Skyline R33 GTR
Maserati 4200GT
Pontiac Trans AM
Mini GP1
Peugeot 205 Rallye (Euro)
Fiat Barchetta
Toyota MR2, mk2 and Mk3
Hillman Imp and Humber Snipe - both historic rally prepped.

Keep me posted if your idea gets legs...

Just the four, in order of miles per year...

Ford Escort van
Smart ForTwo convertible
BMW M Roadster
BMW E46 330 convertible

oh, I completely forgot...

Suzuki Wagon R+ at my mum's house. It used to be to take her out, but is sadly no longer required.

Just looked through your car history. How was the delta as an ownership proposition?
Loved it, metallic verde with tan alcantara. Was actually my student wheels - blew my student loan and savings on importing it from Germany. Insurance completely crippled me (and was mildly fraudulent). Unhappily sold, happily for a significant profit. Replaced briefly by an incontinent purple MGBGT before I gave up cars for a couple of insolvent years..

Still fancy another.

This is definitely the correct answer rofl

Current fleet for me is:
Mazda MX5 NB
Honda Civic iCtdi (was/is my car but mainly used by the wife)
VW Sharan- petrol 2l, LPG converted and mashed inside. Will be used as the tip run, diy car when we buy our next house. Currently looking sad and unloved on my mums driveway.

Also have a motorbike that's used as a daily for me and would like to add a classic Ducati Monster as a second bike when I have a garage (oh and a Harley smile )

When I've got more space/money I'd like to add a GT of some sort (thinking 6 series BMW) and a lightweight fun car which will be a Lotus Elise/Exige, Alpine A110 (if they drop enough in value) or a Toyota GT86 (if also needed for daily duties). Ariel Nomad or Atom as up there Halo cars one day. Would love a small off roader too so may get a Jimny if the next house has a bit of land to mess about in.

Always looking at the classifieds but I am fairly sensible when it comes to it. Civic has been with me for nearly 7 years now and no sign of it going any time soon. I don't think I'll ever sell the MX5 as I like driving it too much. Sharan will stay as long as it's needed and then sent to the scrapyard.

It’s defo an addiction
I think 3 cars is max to keep on top of properly if you’re using them.

Add bikes to the mix and the issue grows.

Current fleet.
Porsche 996 3.4 owned 10 years daily except when salty roads
Mk1 golf gti owned gulp 24 year cost me £120 shares daily when it works
Triumph stag drunk eBay purchase 12 years ago. Still haven’t finished welding.
Skoda Fabian Sdi estate winter tip towing stuff duties.
Audi A4 wagon Mrs car
Citroen c1 lads car
Mini convertible daughters car

Triumph tiger 800 also shares daily duties. Does most miles per year.
Vespa for sale as Mrs won’t have it on display in the house
300 scooter not sure why
2 50 cc scoots. Kids when 16 still haven’t sold them.

Makes 12 I think makes a mockery of 3 being about right.
In fact if you add various garden engines I have over 20 engines to keep on top of.

Got in at the right time by the sounds of it. I think the prices now and bork potential if using (ragging) regularly would be unpalatable at best.
