I can only assume you use Porsche prescription glasses. Should have gone to Specsavers.

We keep saying this again and again but the Alpine isn't meant to be a track toy.
Where does it fall short? Am tempted to get one.

I do wish somewhat would buy one with 17" wheels and report. Alpine have said it gives the most fun handling. Slightly sad that Dan has suffered from the widespread plague of bigwheelitis, though I can understand the choice of big brakes if he is going on track much.
Any idea how the standard brakes stand up to track use?

No, not sure anyone does - yet; but it depends on your point of view (again); the first R26.R had 312mm front discs but weights 200kg more than a Pure (which are 296mm as standard) . So, as a benchmark I'd say the 17's will be fine. Serious use would probably warrant the optional 320mm disc and obligatory 18" wheels but that is not my intention.

Had mine a year now, still love it, only 3 issues, 1. Hopeless infotainment system, 2. Reflection of dash/instrument cowl on screen, 3.the paint seems vulnerable to chips, would advise paint protection is added to your shopping list. Oh one further issue, there is a nasty noise from the passanger seat although I notice this goes when the wife isn't in the car, very odd!

The suspension is a bit too soft (for the track) to be ideal and there is more understeer on track for my taste. For the road it's nigh on perfect. There is now the option of the A110 S which is designed for those who want something a bit stiffer. No-one has yet driven it so it remains to be seen whether (or more likely how much) it is compromised for the road. That said I've only had it on track for an hour or so and others have said it is a matter of aclimatising to the relative softness. Personally, on track, I'd prefer an Elise - but not my previous car - a 981S Cayman on PASM.

I'd caveat that although the infotainment interface leaves a lot to be desired, if you specify the Focal option it actually SOUNDS good. As someone who values good sound reproduction that is more important to me - but I can perfectly understand that the way it defaults to AM radio will drive many wild.

Yes, my R26.R had no issues with brakes on track. I'm keen to buy an absolute poverty spec but only if will stand up to reasonable use.

Interesting. Maybe I should wait a few months. You mentioned something about overheating on the Litchfield thread - the Civic Type R was sold (IMO) as a car that would work on track but unfortunately that's not the reality

I want to ensure I don't make the same mistake again.

laugh I think what you mean is “it’s looks are not quite to my taste.”

Mine neither, but do tread carefully, Alpine folk don’t take kindly to criticism. smile

Hi guys, hope you’re still enjoying your cars. Preston, sorry to hear about the sale, but at least presumably you can use the same dealer for a Scenic..? irked

If I could find a dealer that wasn’t miles away from me I would actually test drive one of these things.

Go test one. It will be worth it but make sure you try it on some B roads or a few roundabouts as it is quite benign around town.

If you don't like it at least you can back it up. You'll find most Alpine folks are ok with that as long as it is well reasoned or purely down to taste. What we tend to be less ok with is illogical criticisms or broad brush statements such as it will burn, depreciation is terrible, it is ugly, it is an auto so must be rubbish, it's not not actually that much lighter than a 718, it's much slower than a 718S, it is slower so is less fun, it's too expensive, too cheap, too impractical, not refined enough, too badly built, is a Renault, it is not a Porsche etc etc.....

It was very costly for the engineers at Alpine to do all the CAD and stress modelling so that this feature could be duplicated in the RHD variant. wink

When you were a kid did you tell other people that your dad was bigger than theirs? Try and adopt a slightly more mature attitude.

Well said he’s very immature we don’t need that type of comment on here

I’m sure you realise this, so apologies, but the comment was applicable to you both.

I’ll sign off as ph maturity police now.

I have noticed with mine, when the noise is there, the car is also slower.
