This has been going on for years now.

Like van locks that scrotes can open in 5 seconds with a screwdriver, it seems like manufacturers just don't care enough to make the product more resistant to easy theft. Or is this less of a problem outside the UK?

I suspect it probably is - we're far too soft as a country when it comes to punishing these scrotes.

Aftermarket cats are rubbish, oem all the way, op did you lose the sensors as well ?
Can you provide a bit more info here ? Rubbish how ? (Fitting/catalytic performance/nickability?)

(My RX400 got done in Woolwich last year, had an aftermarket cat fitted versus an OEM at 3 times the cost and a 3month wait on availability).

Seems the thieves are doing this without fear of consequence.

I'd just have someone fabricate a cheap pipe and swap it in/out at the MOT centre.

Just for someone to walk past a kick the jack away would do.

Out of interest is anyone aware of a jack giving way and the tt being crushed under the car - whilst stealing a cat.
There was a story in the news a few weeks back about a bloke who was in the process of stealing one but was found dead underneath an Astra, squashed to suffocation. Apparently the blow torch was still lit next to him, along with a van full of other stolen ones. Will try and find the article.

So it does happen it would seem.

Rx400h does not need emissions test for MOT check "8.2.1.2. Gaseous emissions" https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-...

So just replace with straight pipe. Not sure how this will work but it must be possible

No sympathy. Next step would be to visit his house and confiscate all his belongings. Following that, sue his parents for raising such a person.

Really?

There's the answer then. Swap out expensive cat with a couple of feet of metal piping.

There were 12 cars done in my village in one evening last week. 8 of which were parked at the village hall while there was an event on. 4 others were done in a separate car park.

An easy £1000+ for the pykey wkers. It seems they had used a portable jaws of life type device as both cuts had left the exhaust squashed.

Something along these lines I would asume.

Should use them on their fingers if they get caught, wouldn’t do it again then.
Also on their gonads for good measure, so they are unable to breed and produce more.

The missus had one taken from her Jazz few weeks back, annoying and makes the blood boil.
I'm an electronic engineer and it's relatively easy to get a 12v to 13kV device wrapped up and set beside the cat - waiting for prying hands. That would finish them off (literally) and is what they deserve. The plod have zero interest in this and will do fk all, I even have given them crystal clear hi Res footage of the jazz theft (in front of a hotel!).

They’d be plenty interested if you electrocuted one I bet

OP here.

The aftermarket cat has been working fine past few months.
No 02 sensors post this cat so doesn’t affect emissions etc.
Legally don’t think you are allowed to put a straight pipe because will fail MOT if cat is visibly missing.

Not worth spending over £2000 just for it to go missing again. They aren’t interested in my £265 aftermarket catalyst.. plus car only worth around £5-6000 so not worth spending so much on genuine article.

That's the thing isn't it. Crime pays in 21st century England, but I'm sure there is a humane way to deal with them

out Honda Jazz had the Cat stolen last week. During the day in a car park. Clean cut.

The car has been written off, unlike the RX400h where they just take the secondary cat the Jazz only has 1 with both lambda sensors, and the middle box cut as the Cat flange is too close. Perfectly reasonable run around binned.
