Porsche dropped the manual in the GT3 and then decided to bring it back because that is what punters wanted. So there is still a market for a manual I think. What doesn't sit well with me is that this 911 is classed as a sports car, for me a car that weighs this much is more of a GT. Appreciate what everyone feels is a sports car is very subjective though.
Hate the way pork holds its money but this, in three years after some southerner has showed it the redline half a dozen times, could be that most elusive of purchases, a bargin used Porsche. I think it's fantastic (at £60K, 20,000 miles FSH) while the Turbo is gasping to justify itself.

It never gets commented on articles about Litchfield, but what warranty cover do they offer if any for their mods? It makes perfect sense to mod the car once the standard manufacture warranty has expired but from new, surely its lunacy? Does not matter how wealthy you are if you are hit with a gearbox/engine re-build it will hurt.
What is standard manufacturer warranty? Porsche offers official warranty up to 10 years.Most the people that will pay for this remap will likely be leasing (otherwise they would buy the Turbo S outright) so they will remap it for a couple of years then take the map off and hand it back, unless they suffer engine issues I doubt anyone (Porsche, insurers) will be any the wiser.
If I were to spend £100k I'd get a Caymen S for £50k as a road car and then spend the rest on an older 996 GT3 for track.
OT but hearing both side by side recently I actually prefer the sound of the four cylinder boxers now to the six, they've tweaked them to rumble like older Subaru's.

Not really. Porsche know there was a problem. Have admitted it and given all 991.1gt3s 10 year engine warranty. And since they upgrade the engine when they fix it with new parts to stop the issue then they are now pretty bombproofIt just goes to show how much utter BS flies about these cars.
For me, it's the little things. For example, my Macan needs a headlight issue resolved and it's 6 months old. It also has an annoying intermittent issue where the mirrors fold in only when they feel like it. Overall, I love my Porsches but there is no way I am willing to risk an engine or drivetrain.
As someone has said, if you can afford a new 911 and the risk of not having a warranty, you can afford the upcoming 911 Turbo, so just get one of those.
Mapping makes sense 5 years down the line, where I'd be first in the queue!

The 992 C4S is a fantastic car from the factory. Monikers like 'GT car' are arbitrary, subjective and completely irrelevant. If the point of doing so is to try and put the 992 into the same category as an AM, Mercedes SL, Bentley etc then its laughable.
I've driven the 992 C4S and it's an absolute peach as an every day all weather performance car that's exciting to drive.
If I can't afford the new 992 Turbo/S then I'll be buying one; and there is no way I'd take it to Litchfield or anybody else for tuning

What if you have kids so need rear seats and / or don't like track driving?This is Turbo S performance for £40K less(depending on what the new 992 Turbo S lists at)
