Good solid list there and a well deserved winner! And the best thing is there are so many other good ones not even in that list, we really have been spoilt biggrin

I suspect the M140 is on there and the Mk3 Megane is not, is because the beemer was available to lease for about 30 pound a month iirc, hence they probably outsold them 10 to 1. hehe

The BMW was cheaper to buy than to lease though. But still, it was probably 1 to 25.

I have had both and really liked them both in their own way. I preffered the Megane simply beause of its trackability but as a road car I would have ranked the BMW above it. The Megane only started working when the BMW was starting to falter, ie at 8/10ths which is practically impossible to do on the open road.

The Mk4 so far is kind of best of both worlds.

The problem I suspect is that not many on here will have had the chance to try/own one. Renault's rather strange attitude to the UK market sees only a handful of dealers, a tiny fraction of its range sold here and a much reduced market share compared to the past.

I suspect no cheap lease deals available on these is the result and hence few cars on the resale market.
Interesting, here in sweden it sold very well, it outsold anything that Renault sport ever have produced. And if you go to the ring they are everywhere. But all markets are different...

Clio wins with its Bus like driving position.... has to be PH.
But if you avoid falling out of the window during hard cornering, it's great fun!

Considering it seems many people on here don't even understand what 21st century means, I don't think this can be used as a definitive list. But hey, it was a bit of fun.

I know what you mean.

The clio 200 felt like that compared to the 182 Trophy. It's limits were too good for the road which meant less fun.

The Trophy however delivered hilarity at every corner/roundabout on the morning commute,

Glad the 147 gta made the list.

Only car I've driven from the list, glorious engine, nice cabin.

And still a good looking car by the way. Design wise Alfa could almost bring the car back to the market, with some adjustments like led lights. Shame the chassis is a bit sloppy and an lsd is handy as well.

Similar applies to the Alfa Mito, just recently put out of production, but was on sale since 2008. Design still looks fresh.

Exactly, and all the owners on here just want to add to the bragging rights about it being in the top 10...

Confirmation bias in action yes

Objectively it’s insane that the mk.3 Megane misses the list, however the the lack of MINIS and focii makes perfect sense.

The Clio 182 Trophy. The number 1 most overrated hot hatch of the last century. Confirmed by the fact the Clio 200 Cup appears 8 places lower.

Don’t believe the hype!

Hmm, a tad Renault-biased in my view. They’ve produced some good hot hatches but do they really deserve this many top 10 cars?

I agree with the winner but I am really surprised the RS250/265/275 never made the top 10.

Yes they have continually hit the top of the pecking order for decades, I would of voted Megane mk3 also had it been on the list,
But decided on the r26r it was a tough choice between the Clio trophy.
The trouble is that most people in this country don’t understand or even care what most of these french hatches are capable of because well it’s french.
the drive of a car Is about 1% of the importance of owning a car in this country it’s all about the badge and the gadgets the image

I own a Mk3 Megane but voted 172 Cup. Go figure.

I think people are reading a bit too much into these results. It's a bit of fun.

All I'll say is Renault Sport deserve to dominate this segment as they have shown the most commitment over the past two decades, and delivered consistently. They are masters of the B-road blaster. People want different things but personally I'll take driving thrills over daily driver comfort.

I love my Megane MK3 RS 250 Cup so was a little disappointed for it not to make the cut, But all the cars listed should be celebrated as they could be end of era cars with the demands of emissions bringing hybrid, downsizing and extra weight..

I've owned three of those ten and I can't argue with the result at all, although the BMW did raise an eyebrow as I've not really seen/read/heard much about them and as did the Clio V6... I think they were maybe only voted in because of the absurdness of them because they aren't particularly great to drive
