RE: Subaru Impreza WRX Type RA | The Brave Pill
Discussion
People saying it’s not a genuine this or that are wasting their breath lol. So many versions and without the VIN no way of telling. I recall seeing 555 editions here in NZ, but they had the smaller gold wheels. Pretty sure we had Possum Bourne editions or something similar too. I suspect NZ got the lions share of JDM imports at that time, wouldn’t surprise me if at least one of every different version of RHD WRX ever made landed here at some point, hardly any remained unmolested unfortunately.

They still have rain though, and most of these cars are knocking close to 25 years old.
I wouldn’t expect any 90’s JDM fresh import to be truly rust free anymore.
If you source it from the right people a rust free GC chasis impreza is definitely possible, I know as I have one. An unrestored 1999 V5 STi in pure white with 2 japanese owners and 80,000 miles on the clock. With not a spot of rust anywhere.I wouldn’t expect any 90’s JDM fresh import to be truly rust free anymore.
The car in discussion here is a WRX RA not STi RA and it has been repainted! This car is being discussed elsewhere on the net at the moment by somebody who was looking to buy it. VIN plate gurus have been all over it.
And there is an awful lot of rubbish being spoken here about Imprezas hahahahaha
Are the wheels the correct Diameter ?
They look too big IMO

Looks like a few degrees of rear positive camber has been dialed in, unless it was bashed around in the shipping container. Does it need high speed stability that much
Well spotted. I was looking at the wheels thinking the relationship to the arches doesn’t appear quite right (at least to me). Easily sorted by adjusting the top mounts. Although hitting the sweet spot would probably elude me so best left to a suspension guru to set up. What a result that could turn out to be! tgrobbo said:
That’s awesome. Quite jealous. Do you need to upgrade the intercooler for that sort of power?
When I bought the car it had a front mount intercooler - if you want to make more than 400BHP you really need a front mount. I love the stock front balance on the early cars so went back to top mount but with a larger cooler. It took quite a bit of fabrication to get there. Some pics below of the top mount and the car the day I bought it - quite a transformation …

They do...it was around £2k when it was first produced, so cost prohibitive compared to the option above
I was close to taking the plunge for a lateral but it is pricey - honestly for a drivers car I think 350-400 BHP with a fast spooling turbo is the sweet spot for a GC8 - power band is sensible and its. enough to make it very quick without shredding tyres (unless you want to!)Chris.65 said:

Thanks !Blimming good save BTW, totally de-chaved your car
At the time I could have bought a very clean Sti RA GC8 for what I have in the car now but in the plus side I absolutely love it and it’s not so original So drive it pretty much daily when there is no salt on the road

480BHP and 540LbFt with my TMIC. The flow limit is my turbo exhaust housing size, it wont flow anymore. I could get 600BHP on this setup with a larger turbo. Some pics below of the top mount and the car the day I bought it - quite a transformation …
It works better than the majority of FMIC for charge cooling, you are not blocking airflow for the radiator, the Intercooler has less restrictive airflow through the core, the pipe run and subsequent volume of air to fill on spool is less and the weight isnt hanging out the front either.
On cruise my charge temp is 1 degree above ambient, which is particularly amusing in winter.

that's not the OE TMIC though is it, didn't you have a custom jobbie made up?It works better than the majority of FMIC for charge cooling, you are not blocking airflow for the radiator, the Intercooler has less restrictive airflow through the core, the pipe run and subsequent volume of air to fill on spool is less and the weight isnt hanging out the front either.
