Mention a particular car, someone has to mention...
Discussion
Vauxhall Vectra - "it understeers so badly!"(Congratulations, you think that Clarkson's Top Gear is a documentary)
Vauxhall Zafira - "hahaha Zafailure!!!" Wait... Don't you rent your car and worry about the mileage you will or will not use? Didn't you post a thread about suing the council for TWO tyres because you couldn't see a pothole and can't afford to pay for the tyre that didn't get damaged and still had 1.6000000001mm of tread? Didn't you post an embittered thread about your ex-Mrs getting custody of your kids because you are a drunk? Is the working man who owns his car and is raising his kids a failure, or are you? (sorry, got on my high horse with that one )
RX8 - "shame the engine doesn't last more than about 10k miles between rebuilds"... Right, so your mate didn't read the bit in the manual about the oil system needing top-ups?
Citroen "huhuhuh sh*troen" - really? The maker of the Traction Avant, the DS, the SM, the C5 and C6 should be denigrated by one dumb portmanteau? What next, Lamb-poor-ghini? Gaston Martin? Seriously, come back when you are a car guy.

The S8 thread made me think, someone mentions that model and you can guarantee someone will mention Ronin, a fairly mediocre 1998 Robert De Niro film that is otherwise pretty much forgotten except for the car chasing starring the aforementioned Audi.
Its like it has to be mentioned, it is the law, same with these, even though they are usually not 100 percent true and often are just regurgitated Clarkson quotes.
Speaking of the fuzzy-haired idiot, heard a corker the other day. He was comparing the V8 S4 to the E46 M3, and uttered the immortal "...and with its Quattro 4WD system it provides tonnes more grip than the BMW." Its like it has to be mentioned, it is the law, same with these, even though they are usually not 100 percent true and often are just regurgitated Clarkson quotes.
I mean the man's obviously clueless, but for someone of his stature to make a throwaway comment like that I thought was priceless! Granted the Quattro system might provide greater traction in wet weather from a standing start, but a car will only grip as much as its tyres will allow - 4wd won't defy the laws of physics
I call these people Snippet Kings!
The ONE thing they “know” that may be true or untrue will definitely come out of their mouths!
The BEST place to find them is at car shows, whether it was at The Motor Show or some local show you would always hear “of course you know……………”
I always wanted to shout LIES while facing the other way!

Calibra: Its only a Cavalier in a dress, or drag... take your pick.
Isn’t that when the owner says, ‘drag, drag, I think you will find at the time of its launch, it was the most aerodynamically efficient mass-production car in the world. It had a DRAG coefficient of just 0.26, that’s drag.’BananaFama said:
Mini Metro...you'll die in a crash due to awful Euro Ncap rating , usually accompanied by a pic of a Rover 100 folding up in the crash test .
Meh !
Indeed. Meh !
I survived parking in a clump of trees in my mum’s MG Metro back in the day. Wasn’t a panel left unscathed, but me and my passenger walked away

Lotus - Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious
Mind you, this was back in the late 70s and early 80s. Had one customer with an S1 Esprit, 5 years old and had covered 120k miles!
But it’s true. I’ve had six and they were all lots of trouble and it was always serious.Mind you, this was back in the late 70s and early 80s. Had one customer with an S1 Esprit, 5 years old and had covered 120k miles!

Wash your filthy mouth out, it's one of the best 90s spy thrillers and has some of the best car chases in cinema history.993kimbo said:

Any BMW mentioned on PH and apparently you have to mention if its an E46 or an E17 or whatever. No one else outside PH knows or cares
I always wondered why some get worked up about using model designation, it's not exactly complicated and most people who know about cars understand what an E46 is. Is funny the things people get their knickers in a twist about I was going to say E60 M5 someone has to mention rod bearings, but I don't want to upset any sociopaths.
Oh bugger, I said it anyway.
As a test I asked my wife (ex Ford Advanced Research Engineer) and some of her ex colleagues who still work at Dunton, none of them had a clue.
But right on Cue, you did it for me anyway
Comments made on some of mine
Maserati Granturismo
Often some glib comment about breaking down a lot
Truth is, it is one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned
Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 2
Oooh that's nice, I bet you don't get many miles to the gallon in that.. Invariably
I reply 6 to 8 ..
Land Rover Series 2a
Regularly find a random chap staring at it wistfully like a toy in toyshop window.
Then often 'nice old defender'

I’ve wanted a Shadow 1 or 2 for a long time!
It really winds me up when people ask if I’m going into the wedding driver business!
