Plans had the first "Pistonheads Challenger" today. It was wet... so the session was in fact spead over three separate visits to the track waiting for the rain to stop and the track to dry out.

The slippery conditions did not really improve ...so a best time of 1.30.2 (wet) was posted...

The car? Duncan C's pretty amazing Dax Rush Hyabusa Turbo... lots of noise, flames, but very little grip in the wet conditions.. so could get beaten by a 118bhp Lotus Elise I reckon....

Is there a noise limit in force at Dunsfold?

Yes, but it is purely subjective. If your car is too loud, (which usually means if you have a loud car and the wind is blowing from the track towards the offices) you cant run. No Formula cars, no unsilenced cars.

Remember, they used to build Harrier jump jets here. So imagine putting a noise meter 1m away at a 45 degree angle from the exhaust of one of those and still being to hear anything for a week.

And the neighbours complain about a bit of tyre squealing.....

Yesterday we had better weather and the second Pistonheads challenge session.

Liam T in a standard 350Z posted a creditable 1.39.2

It was Liam's first ever experience of track driving, and he did very well. Most of the session was spent just perfecting braking and steering to maximise the grip available.

Liam's times consistently fell from a first run in the high 40's down to acheiving Liam's taregt of breaking the 1.40 barrier.

A big thanks to Graham for providing a very entertaining birthday for me yesterday!

Being a complete novice I was slightly wary of throwing my pride and joy about. Graham helped to eradicate some very sloppy habits of mine LOL!!

I wanted to get under 1:40 and managed to achive it on my last lap which was fantastic. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience and highly recommended to drivers of all capabilities!!!!

Well done mate, it sounds great fun. Not too shabby, considering how greasy it must have been.

I'd love to have a go round there, I'm just not sure about doing it in my own car.

is there a calender of which dates this will be run on, and how long the challenge will be open for? Till new year, till spring? (will i be able to sring this out long enough to be able to avoid a "mildly moist" track?)

Bah Humbug to all the moaners that are having a go at this because of a few £££ .... its a one off experiance to draw your own benchmark against the times of one of the most mysterious and famouse drivers and on such a famouse track. Shame on you lot!!

I'm in!!! thumbup

i now have my flame proof coat on and am running for the door.

fast...

shouting over my shoulder as i am still running ... FWIW i will try not to respond to any comments against what i have said, its just "my" opinion.

We have no reason to limit it, so it's open as long as there are people interested in doing it. As for dates, please ring Graham at Plans and he'll tell you what's available.

Spoke to Plans yesterday... I asked if you had the place to yourself for the day or if you could go there in a group....

It is absolutely one to one so price looks even better now! The whole track to yourself.

Why's it one to one? Apparently the TG lap is a figure of eight....

yikes Now I geddit...

Let us know when you are going Phil; I'm up for it in the Lingenfelter Z06!

Ted, why are you not including the times set on the previous page of this thread? Were they not run under the same conditions?
And I respectfully suggest it merits a proper "Power Lap Board" type grid rather than a constantly floating post on this thread.

Not with you, you mentalist!

But as the day consists of lots of tuition, I'm sure they have more than one punter at the venue at a time, just not out on track at the same time.

Anyone know max numbers for a day?

Who cares - it's one to one tuition and only one person on track at one time. Thats good enough. Few more miles on the 997GT3 and I'll be there to make an arse of myself!

Obviously I care, that's why I asked! rolleyes
It would be fun to turn up with a few mates to do it on the same day.

Indeed, indeed - I got a bit over excited. Cool idea. If you're up for it it would be good to meet up again (somewhere other than a freezing Yorkshire moor!). Perhaps we could compare precision German engineering with American brute force?
