Park it up in front of the offices of these guys, take it out of gear, floor it and see how irate they get.

Thank goodness TVR never fully type approved their cars! No CO2 rating means TVRs stay in the PLG catagory, so £200 in 2010.

hahahahahaha at least my trick of buying the most stupidly big engine I could find means I don't have to worry about which tax bracket I'll be in. I know it's gonna be bad.

PS I thought the Labour govt was all about the poor person? They're really fking them over this year. Dropping 10%, increased taxes etc.

Yes, it pleases me no end to wind up the Greenies with my 5.0 "Gas Guzzler" for which I pay the princely sum of £185... Or the same as my Diesel Estate....

I take it that childless people are exempt from the higher taxes then?
Sadly not, but no-one cares about these people who do most of the work in the economy and get shafted the most by the authorities...so they don't count!

If the government were really serious about emissions etc. it would scrap all car taxes and just have a duty on fuel. How is it fair to tax a larger engined car that does 5000 miles per year, more than a smaller engined car doing twice or three times as much mileage.

It just shows this is about getting as much money as possible out of all of us. I can't wait for the next election to kick out Brown and co.

Come on Londoner's make a start and show us the way, Vote Boris
Exactly - the Government's thinking is that if driving up fuel prices actually did make us change our driving habits, then they would lose money. By taxing the cars, it doesn't matter if we change our driving habits or not, they still get the money.

[/smug-mode] BTW TVR Griff registered Nov 2001 won't count, and other car is crappy 1996 Golf diesel, complete with black smoke+++, also exempt from new rules. Darling, fk yourself! [smug -mode]

Using that site, I'm now confused.

My car was registered 1st March 2001. The dates shown on Parkers 7 Nov 2000 to 1 Mar 2001, but also 1 Mar 2001 to 30 Dec 2003.

So which date range does my car fall into as this makes quite a difference to my VED?

Holy st, they really don't want to be re-elected, I can see cars made late 2000 are going to start going up in value! I'll be keeping my car for good at this rate.

Is that right? Good news for me... Seriously though, there must be some kind of petition relating to the ridiculous taxes that motorists are having to pay these days.

Road tax is now way over an acceptable limit for a lot of people.

Petrol is getting more and more expensive by the minute. The majority of this is due to tax and VAT on the tax.

There are taxes on new, 'high-poluting' cars (not sure if this has been implemented yet or is coming soon)...

All of this is coming when food prices are on the rise. Food prices are further affected by the cost of delivery (not to mention 10p tax bands etc...)

It is seriously time that something was done about this ludicrous piss-taking.

Let's start a campaign............

Everyone fill in the form for a refund on their car tax in November 2009.
Apply immediately for new tax starting in Dec 2009.

We will:
1/ Lose a little on the previus tax.
2/ Pay the lower rate for 11mths of 2010.
3/ Cause the DVLA to grind to a halt as they will not cope with the demand for either refunds or new tax requests.
4/ Never be able to cope with the fact that 24mio vehicles will always be taxed in the same month every year!
I'm up for doing this. Anyone else?

Prepare yourselves for the return of burning wrecks by the roadside! My guess is that the rate of reported "car theft" is going to rise astronomically in the next 2 years.

Its time people stood up to these car hating dimwits, they have not got a clue, a lot of voters have cars mr Brown.
Yep, let's hope they vote the self serving scum out.
If anyone seriously believes that a change of government will bring about low-tax paradise for us drivers, they they are being unrealistic.

Drivers have always been an easy target for politicians of whatever party, whether they be red, blue, green, or pink polka dot.

Scameras, VED, double tax on fuel and so on are all here to stay I'm afraid. mad

The poor unemployed tend to vote labour, so labour's cunning plan get more people into the unemployed and poor category, when the Tories win the next election they will inherit the poison cup and probably only last one term.

Ok...

I don't think of myself as particularly stupid but I am utterly confused.
I'm not surprised, given that PH have dusted off an ancient story and presented it as 'breaking news' (probably intended as a timely pre-elections reminder actually).

There is no change from the situation foisted on us in the budget and described in various references provided in other posts here.

What is clear however is that a sizeable chunk of PHers, whom you would expect to be keeping up with motoring events, seem to be unaware of the impending shafting. So it's going to make fine viewing when it dawns on the rest of the car-indifferent public just how cynically they've had their trousers pulled down...

well, another dip into my pocket...wow I am loving this every min...

this has now confirmed my decision. I have been hopping back and forth between europe and uk now I am sticking to europe.
Work from home come to London, to say hi to everyone once a week, at the cost of £100.00 and still have enough money left over to drive my bentley on the coast with the top down. Coming into the UK every week for 2 days costs me 590 a month including tube/taxi rides, and I am still quids in.

No more, you can take my 40% salary tax but that is it...nothing more!! I have had it with this taxing gov, thing is the torries will not do any better.
I am in town today but going on Sunday so the next post will be from sunny portugal...sorry all!! but this is too much.
Anyway my "mi casa es su casa" feel free to come and join me....

It has been one hell of a ride....albeit with the gov taking me on one!!!!1
