I'd get a taxi straight to BMW and have an E92 M3 for the time being until I decided what else to get. Would keep the Clio though.

Hmmmm. I would nip down to Edinburgh in the morning. Buy, say, a 360CS from a dealer. Rent out Knockhill for myself and a few friends for the afternoon. Then spend the evening on the classifieds.

That, gentlemen... Is how you do it!

There's very little I'd actually want that's brand new, so classifieds.

Starting with my newfound love, the Oldsmobile Jetfire Turbo Rocket. hehe

A couple of brand new cars, probably an M3 and a fast estate of some kind, AMG or RS something.

The rest would be spent on 3 or 4 used cars, a couple of classics and contemporary sports cars and a motorcycle or three. Then, a house on the coast and starting a business (probably dealing in cars and some holiday home lets).

Only 5 million?
Is that just for vehicles? Or do I have to budget for a new house for "us"?
I "need" a garage big enough for at least a Range Rover, with access to the house, without going outside. A big barn/hanger for the rest of the fleet.
My first buy would be a nearly new Rangie, I'm not keen on the new one.
I would also be buying some other stuff:

With a 5 million lottery payout it would definitely be the classifieds. Not because I wanted classics, but because the car budget out of 5 million wouldn't be much after a suitable house with garage space to fit the cars in. Also, the depreciation hit on the cars I would want to buy even after a year would be too much to bear.

A 2009 RR Supercharged Autobiography with 3,000 miles for £66K will be every bit as satisfying as a brand new one for £95K plus. I have been "poor" long enough to know the value of an extra £30K in my back pocket. wink

Would head to the factory, not the dealership. I think it would be a much more interesting experience. Buying a Morgan EvaGT from the factory must be an amazing day. Also visit companies like Paul Stephens to get my Porsche and JE Engineering for my V8 Defender. I think it would be much more fun discussing the spec and options directly with the people who build them. Also hunting out the classics could be fun, travelling around and making sure it was just right. Especailly the Alfa SZ.

First on the list would be a huge Grand Designs stylie place to put them all in. Then it'd be mainly classics and old race cars. None of the new stuff I like is particularly expensive anyhow. Saying that neither are the classics in the scheme of things. The long nose D-Type might smart a little though...

st, why hasn't anyone else thought of this topic before? hehe

If I had money to burn, I's buy nearly new...for the newish cars that I like. And low mile versions of the older cars.

I'd do both.

Firstly I'd toddle off to the dealers for some new millionaire snotters, probably a Supercharged FFRR for me, maybe even one of those horrifically vulgar 'Holland and Barrett' peasant bashers, and something like the new Bentley Conti GT for the wife.

I would then hit the classifieds and piece together a smorgasbord of filthy pork and fezzas from the past. I'll now spend much of the day tracking down and pricing those cars up - thanks Garlick!

p.s the Holland and Barrett thing is a joke, there are no prizes for spotting it

p.p.s anyone making footballer comments should have a word with themselves in the mirror and then cancel their subscription to the chip-on-the-shoulder inducing Daily Mail

I'm northern and i'm tight, but cars are my fave thing in the world, if i had 5million, i'd budget 1.5million on cars i think.

However, i find older stuff generally more interesting and i think some stuff is much more intersting when its a bit st, remember your fondest cars of your youth, i bet they were knackered. Living in canada, a mate has a $200 ford econoline, we call it the rapemobile, so many roadtrips have been done in it, so many awesome times, so many unforgettable memorys! So i think some stuff would be new, some stuff would be old, i think my luxo stuff would be old, my racey stuff would be new. I think it'd be along the lines of...

the BEST bmw E32 750 i could find, so maybe like £5k
a dog rough rangey classic. £1.5 maybe.
a new yank pickup truck, maybe £30k
build a track car, maybe £30k
then the rest on super cars, ford GT - used, ferrari 458 - new, ferrari F40- used, ferrari F599 probably used

Then i think i've run out of cash

Life must be hard being rich, so many decisions!

A brand new, top spec Range Rover TDV8 for me and then a lot of fun buying interesting old stuff. I'd want a real AC Cobra 427 and a silver drop-top Jag XK120. And a Paul Stephens 911RS recreation thingy. Then a full no-expense spared strip-down and rebuild of my 635csi.

That'll do for starters.

I'd probably trundle over to Hethel and ask them to make me an S1 Esprit, but with a 2004 spec chassis and V8 engine.
I might pop into the local Range Rover dealership on the way home, too.

The rest I'd keep in used twenties stuffed into Asda carrier bags, liberally scattered around the floor of the spare room.

Straight to the skoda dealer and buy a Yeti off the forecourt.

Then pay off the mortgage, buy a nice unimog, buy a JCB, get the garage extended and filled with nice tools, do the house extension, build a nice chalet in the garden, buy the farmers field.

Then maybe go a buy a few classics and a caterham R400 kit

If I was a millionaire I'd commision my own car.

Surely there are others who would do this? Judging by this thread hardly anyone has ever thought that it might be an awesome project.

Who would you get to build it? If you mean, get a special project by an existing manufacturer, like Pagani, then fair enough, as they have the experience and know-how to make a good thing even better. But I fear a ground up build would be so insanely priced priced, much like a custom Zonda.

I'd definitely get a sleeper commissioned. A fire-breathing Enzo type performance beating shed like car. Just for sts and giggles. smile
