All-New
Are they sure? It looks like a heavy facelift to me and the engines seem almost the same other than more power from the V8. I like it though.

I rated the mk2 SLK higher than the old Z4 in many ways.
Depends what you want from a car i suppose. My mate has newish SLK350 and we extensively compared it to my aging Z4 3.0i, swapping drivers seats along the way. The Z4 is lighter and much sharper to drive. It's also better looking inside and out (IMO). The merc sounded better with the V6 on full song and the supsension was better over bumpy ground, but overall the Z4 was a much better sports car. I would say the old Z4 was more of a Boxster rival wheras the new Z4 is a rival to the SLK (either).
Have to say I've loved all SLK's over the years and especially like the way Merc have trickled down the styling from their more expensive models.
I'd have an SLS any day over everything else but an SLK is probably more likely!
Tough one between this and the current Z4 though as this also looks fantastic.

Indeed, the Z4 is stunning.
However, I've always been more of a Merc fan than a BMW fan so would take the SLK every time. I'm sure it'll look a little better in the metal, once it arrives in the showrooms.
I think the same could be said about the SLS from some angles but overall I think it's the best looking sportscar on the road at the moment (personal opinion of course)

i agree about the air vents... why do companies nowadays feel the need to design air vents? what happened to the functionality of the 80s and 90s?
looks nice... a bit Lexus at the back though (read bland)
also... the rear lights with those horizontal red lines.... EXTREMELY BMW...
and finally, do my eyes deceive me, or does the car in the pics feature a full blown manual gearbox?? this is a benz afterall...

Yes the SLS looks fab, because it's got some curves, which none of these other new Mercs have :-(However, I've always been more of a Merc fan than a BMW fan so would take the SLK every time. I'm sure it'll look a little better in the metal, once it arrives in the showrooms.

I'll be buying a used CLS or CLK. I couldn't afford anything else anyway.
I'd love an SL, but why couldn't they have just put toy seats in the back and called it a 2+2?
To me, the interior looks very similar to that on the SLS. While that's perhaps good for the SLK, it's detracts from the SLS. I feel the SLS has a rather uninspiring interior, nowhere near special enough given how the car is marketed/placed. Compared to the SLR it's a huge stepback. And now MB goes and makes it even less special, I find that a rather boneheaded move.

I guess handling is highly subjective, but I disagree. I've only driven an SLK with "sports suspension" whatever that means, but I thought that, whilst the SLK had slightly woolier turn in, it was better balanced and far better steering than the Z4. The SLK has much better throttle response too, with an appreciable delay in the Z4. The Z4 also felt too firmly sprung, to the point that it ruined both the ride and the handling on public roads. All in all, I felt that the SLK was actually a better sports car. I know I'm in a minority there, though.
It's probably worth bearing in mind that the car that was at the top of my (rather long) shortlist list at the time was the Elise, so both were an order of magnitude behind the benchmark that had already been set for handling. Maybe if I'd driven them in isolation, I would have preferred the Z4 for some reason.
