Of course... it's only logical to build locally when market demand reaches a tipping point.

Helps avoid import taxes too.

However that does not change the fact the company is Korean and so is the car.

It just happens to be built in the United states as well as it's homeland.

You completely miss the point. The non US manufacturers have a gentleman's agreement to build cars in the US which has been going for a number of years. The agreement was designed to prevent accusations that US jobs were being lost, and to prevent the big 3 from taking a home advantage.

It had nothing to do with economies of scale or anything like that, it was purely to prevent their sales getting destroyed by US patriotism, which is turning into a big deal these days.

A very large amount of their components are also sourced within the US, Canada and Mexico. They are as Japanese as Tikka Masala is Indian.

A good example of a Japanese manufacturer purely building for the US market is the Toyota Sequoia and Tundra. Both built for the North American market, 'assembled' in the US, etc. Quite how much of our Sequoia comes from Japan is debatable.

No I see where you are coming from, but I disagree as the Sonata for example is not exclusive to America. It is a global vehicle, launched first in Korea and then released in the USA after a few tweaks were made to suit american tastes.

It's still a Korean car.

So would you drive one of their vehicles? There was web site I was browsing recently (can't recall which one) where somebody took one of the recent chinese car offerings and found all manner of shoddy workmanship and short cuts, including rusty screws, screws missing, rivets missing, carpet not attached to floor, and the windscreen not completely glued to the frame.
I'd really like to see this. Anyone help?

"Assembled in the USA" is besides the point. It's just a tax dodge.

A useful marketing side effect is some muppets actually believe it's American laugh
