Following the sale of my W209 CLK, I've decided to give bargain basement motoring a try (I must be mad)
Something interesting. Thinking Alfa, older Merc?
Otherwise maybe a E46? Or are they all st for 1K?
Don't really want Japanese car's (don't like the interior) or French cars.
Volvo or Saab is cool.
No estates.
Having trawled eBay - I'm finding nothing, Is there a trick to this?
I'm struggling too. I must be waaaaay too fussy. Something interesting. Thinking Alfa, older Merc?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162266794192 ? Deep into beige spectra, but who expects a beige Volvo?
Saw that. Tow bars put me off a bit though. Can't be fussy at this price range, I know. However, they do.Picked this up a few weeks ago after my previous mint 9-3 Aero was written off due to secondary fire damage from an adjacent car.
It has full service history up until last MOT which is due again in April '17. It seems to have been well looked after mechanically as looking through MOT history it has a recent new caliper, new exhaust etc. all tying up with any advisories or fails. It also comes with 4 Continental Sport Contact 5 tyres on still with plenty of life and a brand new Bridgestone Potenza in the boot. It also came with both rubber mats and felt mats too.
It has done 138k and is in very good nick externally with only a little bubbling on the rear arches and alloys. Everything works as it should although the AC, working, is not quite as cold as I usually like.
On test drive I was able to knock a little off the price due to the back end being a little unstable on road bumps (specifically the driver side) however when I took wheels off after purchase to adjust handbrake it was very easy to see why it was a little squirelly. Thankfully it was only the OSR anti-rollbar bush that was goosed so I will replace both of them next week with new Powerflex ones.
The general upkeep and little things like good matching tyres, new exhaust etc. made it an easy enough decision to buy it. The evidence of being well looked after swayed me tbh although the price I got it at definitely helped.
The inside was dirty and having lived its life in Aberdeen-shire, first as a lease car(3 years) then it was owned by the last owner since 2010. From the colour of the inside I would guess the previous owner was a farmer given the dirt and grass everywhere. After cleaning it is now immaculate inside, no marks, scrapes or damage to trim or seats.
I have to say I definitely think I got a very good replacement and being full time at university the money I paid was a massive bonus. The bargain basement market of used cars in this country is amazing, so many great or interesting cars for the money. This bargain being had for the grand total of £870!!!

Terrible news - the cylinder head gasket went on the £600 Skoda I bought in May.
Does anyone want it? It's free if you're going to save the car and you can pick it up early this week.
Car is near Leighton Buzzard and I'm in Glasgow hence the freeness. If I can't find a good home it goes on the bay or will be consigned to the scrappies
Yes! If still available? Does anyone want it? It's free if you're going to save the car and you can pick it up early this week.

What do you guys reckon my chance of getting a reasonable 6/7 seater within or close to thread budget?
Any one any experience of running a bargain Galaxy or summat similar?
I do wonder about whether there is something wrong in putting my family's hands in a bargain bus, but my wife loves her current £2k Kia Sorento and it doesn't do much mileage.
My other option is to lease something, but I get much more satisfaction in running a bargain motor.
Any recommendations? We already also own a Honda FRV that is worth about £2 - 2.5k, but the driver's seats are so uncomfortable.

Bought this yesterday....
For the princely sum of £100
Cambelt and waterpump changed (it was at 67,000miles with original belt) and it was happily cruising down the M40! Next challenge will be the MOT in January..
Sweet. Like a nice tidy Rover. Keep it tidy or it gets a bit council with these. For the princely sum of £100

A comfortable, refined, leathery, sub 7 second (allegedly), 30mpg on a run (even more allegedly), 3 litre V6 for...... £490

If you didn't do too many miles a year and didn't care about image, you could just keep buying a new one when the old one broke!
