Give us the details on that gorgeous E34
Red car is a 1989 Alpina B10 BiTurbo number 3 of 507. Showcar for Alpina in Paris in 1990, famously pictured with pre-production Concorde 101, G-AXDN; car is in Norway since 2009, Concorde 101 is at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.Silver car is a 1995 Alpina B10 4.6 Touring number 16 of 19. UK car.
Edit to add - this blue car is a genuinely gorgeous E34 - a better than new 1993 M5 Touring...

I had the original A8 press pack binder and it had quite a few pictures of them on steels, always thought they looked really rather cool. Like you though, I have never actually seen one on the road.L100NYY said:
I think it's only fair to request fair warning when posting up things like that chap.......just magnificent.I've been considering doing something like the options taken on this thread (older but good car...( for a few weeks now...
we've had a change in circumstances that means my wife no longer drives to work, in fact she rarely uses the car.
we have two cars, an impractical sports car and a 2018 m140i, which I use to commute to work, and we use for domestic duties/ very rare longer trips together.
considering selling the BMW and buying something else but I want
- relatively fast
- relatively smart
- petrol
- hatchback or bigger
- wife needs to want to drive/use it (automatic, not totally sheddy/decrepit).
- heated seats
- would prefer BMW again really...
the incentive here is to repay the loan we took out to buy the BMW and save some cash each month. but it's only about £250 a month, naff all really.
the car is worth 18-19k I guess? (quite low mileage and quite high spec one)
I am struggling to find a car/model option that is sufficiently cheaper to make it worth dropping a car that's relatively valuable, low mileage, and quick...
maybe it's just not the right solution for the current situation?

You know the answer is to get rid of the ‘impractical sportscar’ don’t you ? ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
But it can’t be that hard to find something in the £18k price range can it?
If someone was looking to buy a car and run it until it fell to pieces I’d advise a Lexus of some description myself.
I thought he wants to pay off the 18k loan.![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

I don't know what to suggest. Car buying isn't easy if you have too many variables to consider. So I'd say keep it simple.
Do you need a practical car, really?
I find the less practical a car is then the more it gets under your skin. A practical car is just transport. It's hard to get excited about transport.
Sorry, confusing numbers. To make it worthwhile, purchase price has to be around 10k, probably 5-10 left on loan, not really sure.
I guess what I'm saying is a 30k mile decent condition m140i, owned from new, is hard to justify replacing with an older bargey thing because i) its already quite bargey/quite fast, you know (or can reasonably hope) it won't break.
Do we need a practical car? yeah probably, I have to drive to work each day, it needs to be alright in town, in the winter, and it needs to be able to move occasional big stuff/take stuff to the dump because we've got an impractical ruined old house we're fixing up.
The other side of it all given that at most this would liberate about 5k, I think (although would remove a smallish monthly commitment to be spent on cushions and wallpaper/caulk and filler, woohoo), hardly seems worth it for the certainty/near certainty of not having big (not so bad) and unpredictable (more bad) bills from the m140i.

I had already started writing this before I saw your reply...
These are good little cars. Handle well and not too massive. They have a big fan club so that's good. Modern enough to be a simple car to own but will need a bit more TLC than a new car like you have now. No one wants auto in these so you should have the pick of the bunch. It won't be blistering fast like your 140i but it will be quick enough. Good engine in these. One of BMW finest. They have 265bhp which is as much as a 2003 Boxster S. Any auto older than your current will feel a bit slow in comparison to yours and show it's age. But these 6 speeders are OK when in use. It's basically a third of the value of your current car so it looks cheap enough to make the change worth doing. Beyond this you're looking at a similar vintage 330i which I'd suggest works better as an estate - more practical. Then beyond that you're into 5 series territory.
