All reported, the Mini and the L200 have been removed either by eBay or the seller.

Why is the C70 log book listed for more than the bike would be worth? scratchchin
Honda Cubs are worth big money, very collectable.

As i have very little knowledge on "ringing". Can someone explain how buying a V5 off ebay can be used? Been trying to get my head around it. Making fake VIN plates? Selling the VIN plates with it and bodging it all together?

You don't need to make fake VIN plates. Pop into your local dealer or parts supplier, present the V5 and say "Can I have a replacement VIN plate please? I lost the original whilst spraying the inner wing (or wherever it's supposed to be on that model)". Or buy a blank VIN plate (widely available) and stamp it yourself.

Absolutely correct it it that simple. There is a complete Sylva Leader for sale on PH currently and the VIN plates have gone missing with the number plates. I would put money that these have been used to get a ringer unregistered Kit Car on the road illegally using the identity of the Sylva. There are a LOT of ringer kit cars about which is why I warn every kit car enthusiast to be very very careful in checking the provenance on kit cars! This is a growing problem.

I doubt it from any of the decent long term members wink

Lad on there recently tried to sell the V5 & ID for a Cat B Mk1 Focus RS which he'd stripped for parts & had the shell crushed, claiming he was "young" & "didn't know it was illegal" rolleyes This coming from a family of Ford fanatics that had a feature on their cars in Fast Ford earlier in the year.

He pretty much got told he'd get lynched by every other FRS owner if he ever attended a show & surprisingly hasn't been back on the forum since wink
Why? What did they think would ever happen with a CatB identity? Id say that there would be no chance at all of it passing the VIC.

At a VIC, all they do is check the VIN# on the plate, the VIN# on the V5C, and that the logbook describes the car presented to them, i.e a correct colour Focus RS.

It's not a 'thorough' as you might think, takes literally 5 mins to complete the whole process.

Im familiar with what a VIC involves Dan. Look on the notes / application and youll see that paint may be removed. If the check is completed properly then a welded in VIN section shouldnt be able to get though.

No VIC should ever be completed in five minutes either.

Sorry for the confusion in that post of mine. When I said Cat B, this was based on the fact the car was so heavily damaged after the accident it was involved in. Pictures were uploaded (then removed by the seller) shortly after that showed the exceptionally heavy damage that the car had sustained and showed it was in no way repairable / returnable to the road. Even a guy on the forum who had knowledge of the system, bodyshop, etc, confirmed it would end up a Cat B via an insurer due to the damage.

As a result the owner / seller decided to strip the car down for parts rather than put in a claim via his insurers. This was because it transpired the damage to the car had been caused solely by the owner late one night, no-one else was involved, etc.

So essentially he was selling the shell along with the V5 / VIN / ID of a car that was only going to be fit for scrap, but was not actually on the Register. Thus enabling someone to take the V5 & ID and possibly create a replica MK1 FRS and then try to pass it off as a real one (this has happened once before), or alternatively (and more likely) they could use the ID of the non registered "Cat B" car to hide dubious history / remove an accident damage marker on another MK1 FRS.

That makes a lot more sense. The 'hidden history' is more likely to be a 'reason', but most identities for cars like that get used to legitimise a stolen car. Had he sold it a little less ineptly then (V23 markers aside*) it would have probably been bought by someone with a view to stealing a suitable similar model, or less likely, used to re-identity their own car before making a stolen claim on it.

*V23s used to be submitted by police officer where they saw fit, so a car on which an insurace claim wasnt made could still be flagged up for inspection byt the stolen vehicle squad. This may have changed since the introduction of the VIC scheme, though.

Indeed it is and I have reported it as well. Ebay are obviously too busy. Pity.
