I actually think that they'll be considered a youngtimer classic before too long. Bangle's flame surfacing in full effect. In the right colour, on ellipsoids, I think they're a great looking thing and future values will reflect that. Nearly 20 years old but look way better than the vast majority of other things on the road, including the Boxster - though that would be a closer contest if Porsche had managed to carry the concept's looks over to production.
I loved them when they first came out but there's something about a Seal Grey 987 on lobster claws that really hooks me in. But I'm not sure I could live with the costs of the pork.A Z4 in some kind of titanium shade, ideally with a splash of dog's knob red in the interior would do me very well as an alternative I think.
Finding a 3.0si in SE trim and the right colours might be a bit of a waiting game though. I want to avoid the Sport suspension as well as RFTs.
Sterling/red is what I had and is the pick IMO - much more common on the earlier cars as it was one of the schemes used at launch, in brochures etc.

IIRC I paid £3600 for it.
The Z4 forum is good, lots of info and usually some good cars changing hands.
The wife had one as an AUC back in about 2007 - was an 04 plate. From memory it was somewhere around £20k then. The Z4 forum is good, lots of info and usually some good cars changing hands.
I didn’t think it was very good relative to its cost back then. Now, at sub-£5k I’m much more open to them.
It was the generation of BMW where for me, everything felt a bit cheap. Even after ditching the RFTs the ride was agricultural, which lead to the rear hopping over bumps. I think you can fix that with aftermarket springs IIRC.

The suspension isn't hideously stiff, especially compared to more modern stuff. RFTs makes a massive difference - check the wheels for cracks/repairs.

Rear coil springs appear to be a serviceable item on the E85/86. Sterling/red is what I had and is the pick IMO - much more common on the earlier cars as it was one of the schemes used at launch, in brochures etc.
I've had 4 replaced over ownership of a '53 plate 3.0i SE and the current '07 Z4MC.
Other than that the E85 was very reliable over 5 years of ownership. Great engine.

Got to be an error or an MR4!The 348 Drop top on there with a more modern wheel looks fantastic, steering wheel is horrid though.
Have to say, i really dislike the 348 standard wheel, straight on to a set of BBS LMs for me, still a very pretty car.

Mum had one of those Except it was brown.
And a 1600.
And an auto
It was a 131 though
It was followed by a Fiat Argenta. My parents had some eclectic cars when I was growing up

Would the MR2 roadster be on the list too? Never driven or even been in one, but somehow I like the ethos behind it...Mk1 TT

My friend had a HPE when we were 18. I've never seen a car produce smoke from behind the steering wheel before he got it, nor have I seen one do it since he got rid of it
I remember a friend’s car suffering a similar fate. I think it may have had an electric heater element for the heater if memory serves although that sounds highly unlikely. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
