Good luck Civic!
tbh, I'm not really worried. Advisories last time were for a shock and a suspension bush, one either side, the opposite of what was changed at that time (if you see what I mean) so it'll be £200 all in barring any extra issues.

My leased Cupra was stolen 2 weeks ago (see another thread).

I spent last week without a car, relying on lifts to the station. Which was a faff as I live in a small village 4 miles from the station (which is the other side of a big hill). What a pain in the arse!

However, a phone call followed by a 5 minute(!) agreement via WhatsApp, I bought a 2007 Peugeot 307 for £1500. FSH, leather, regassed aircon, belts recently changed. 50k miles.

Hopefully that counts as a shed though I must say, other than being a car of its time (5CD slots in the dash...), it’s not very shed-like at all..!

for £1500 that looks more than adequate indeed.

I still say a shed needs a tapedeck as OEM to qualify however :-)

Fixed the misfire in the Focus, only for an HT lead to snap on to the 4th spark plug so a new set have been ordered. I had them in my basket too but decided against it... typical!

I friend commuted 300 miles a week in a 1.6 307 untill it finally died on 160k. Dog slow but comfy and managed the M25 well in all conditions.

just having a browse on autotrader for sheds as you do...

while I don't conform to the "must be below £1k" mantra, I have picked a few around that price range to spice things up.

2006 Suzuki Swift
You always hear about how fun these small Suzuki's are, a nice example for the money, complete with paw prints:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2003 Skoda Octavia - Laurin & Klement Edition
A unique colour combo with rims to match, for under £900 notes you get a cheap reliable estate, loaded with extras what's not to like?
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2005 Honda Accord Executive Tourer
If you're after a tourer but tired of the Germanic stuff, this ones for you with all the toys - a taste of Japan:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

1990 Nissan Micra
For the ultimate shedder who needs to make a statement "zero f**ks given", we have this Micra in Jewish Racing Gold and bubbling rust:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2003 Volkswagen Passat
A Passat? Yes they're ten a penny, but this example in Black looks sharp for the money - a headlight polish would complete... a shedding sin I know:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

2004 BMW X3
This is for a newbie who wants to dip their toe into the world of shedding but fears judgement from their inner circle. Yes the X3 of this era is an industry joke (remember clarksons review?), but normal joe bloggs won't know that. A smart german "SUV" for peanuts.

Which one you getting?

First thing I look for is the make, model, fuel type, engine size.

Spec is way way way down

A OEM cassette deck you say?

By that criteria my garage queen XJ qualifies as a Shed but my scabby old Skoda diesel doesn't. biggrin

The criteria will be lack of DAB radio soon!

Just had the wheels refurbed on my old Merc - seems mad, but they looked pretty bad close up and a couple of tyres were randomly losing pressure. I think of the cost in terms of monthly lease charges, so the refurb was less than one month.

Been running a 17 yr old Audi A2 since Jan. Paid £1200 for it with 116k. Had to do the mandatory belt and pump (£98 parts!) But pretty much just basic servicing and playing about fixing the multitude of silly faults that people live with (but not me 😁)
Car is now on 133500, MOT due December and will probably need tyres at £70 a corner as it's on 17's. Thing is I'm rather attached to the thing, remapped it for £40 and it's now a back lane blaster!!! It's saving putting miles on my E91 ,which feels like a limo in comparison, with tax at £30 it's a crazy cheap way to get about. I'd buy another without hesitation tbf.

Good to know. Given the hassle and cost of having the house broken into and a car stolen, I’m going to be happy to stick with this for the time being and put tthe save money into some more domestic security and the mortgage.

However I have been caught out a couple of times nipping across a nearby crossroads in the morning and finding it doesn’t have the off-the-line zip the Cupra enjoyed.

And the ditchfinder tyres will no doubt be fun on filthy lanes on a frosty January morning....

The wheel centres on my E class are very faded. Is it much of a job to fit new ones? Have I got to take the wheels off to do it?

Whilst I'm obviously biased and prefer the 306, I think your three-door 307 actually looks very smart with those wheels! What engine does it have?

I’ve always lived the 306 and hammered after a GTI6 or a Rallye when younger.

It’s a 1.6 petrol. I think the trim - those alloys, leather, aircon, alloy gear knob(!) mean it was a Sport model and probably quite pricey at the time.

Already in a shed, but can't help browsing AT 'shed filter' to see what is out there.

If you’re going to throw the old ones away they might pull off if you put a screw through them - VW dealers do that but I don’t know how tight they are on Mercs.

Mot passed,55 plate 1.7 cdti Astra, only needed headlamps replaced, originals were well cloudy, two from ecp £49,changed pads n discs recently, gear box oil change, got about 750 ml of thin black liquid out so worth doing,
Van bought Jan '17 with 53k miles, currently on 118k,mostly paid for by mileage expense from work ,been all over uk,canvey,London,Aberdeen, fort William,Gloucester, from Durham base regular commutes to Glasgow, few trips to Rye each year, did preventative change of small water pipes, seem to develop pin holes that only open at working temp, had problem with last van at 180k hoping this one goes at least as far/well

Shed question:

  • background: I have been a shedder for a couple of decades. Always good quality, old, petrol estates. Ran them until they popped, got another.*
My current shed is an 06 Forester N/A. It's in good condition, but only manages 29MPG average. I do about 8000 miles a year.

Do I keep the Foz because it's in good order, or do I sell it while it's in good order for top shed dollar and buy something that does 40mpg.

Saving would be about £400 a year on fuel, plus probably sell for £1500ish and buy for £1000.

Cannot decide.

What would be correct in shed rules?

People focus too much on mpg, much better to look at running costs.
