Best smoker barges 1-5 large [vol8]
Discussion
Thanks for all the good wishes on the 190e everyone.
Was it only 2 weeks ago that the SEC was collected and I came on here saying I was definitely (i) going to hold out until at least Christmas before getting another car and (ii) whatever I did buy would be black with black leather?
Well, I lasted barely 2 weeks. Pathetic.
Now I'm back into the old cycle of complaining that I don't do enough miles to keep 1 old car running properly, and having 2 is just daft (never mind 3) - so I sell up and get back down to 1 old car + 1 modern, then back up to 2, then 3, then down to 1, then back up again, and on and on it goes!
As Oa said above - it really is a weakness. I'd say it was a deep psychological affliction.
But, really, a 2.6, Sportline, auto, in Bornite with leather? Faced with that specification, what was I supposed to do?
The hope is that Mrs mccrackenj will take a shine to it (unlike CdG's brood) and use it to ferry the MIL around on Saturdays. That would get it a good 30-40 miles usage each Sat. Wifey got quite fond of the previous 190e (even christened it Dorothy FFS) so hopefully same will happen this time.
Just hope it doesn't clash terribly with the 260E when they're parked side-by-side. Willow Green with Bornite? Apple and blackurrant? Well, it'll make a change from the sea of silver and grey on the rest of the street.

S124 arrived this afternoon - and it seems pretty lovely.
Being a 12v diesel, it's a slow old thing, but it is perfect for wafting around in - feels solid and well built, and no issues yet. Electric aerial and sunroof both surprisingly fully operational!

I have just ordered a dark blue set of mats for the 500SL from http://www.specialvehicle.co.uk/ - the set I ordered from them almost 3 years ago have done great service in the W124.
That website is a bit of a shocker!Nowhere near budget, but what a colour combination for a sunny day! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C642929#

As an aside, are there any Ph type meets/events this sunday in the south East? Im over and keen to get the 550 out for a run!
I'm not sure if there's anything more formal, but I'm certainly up for a meet, ideally to the West or South of London. I'd really like to see your car. I'll be in the newly-washed and very shiny 190, but I doubt you'll have much trouble keeping up!OpulentBob said:

black box that creates a wifi zone in the car that you can share streaming music and YouTube / iTunes to. £30 all in and solves the problem of more modern media in an older car.
The new gadget sounds good, can you send me a link please?Cheers,
C
Ideal for older barges that don't have USB / bluetooth etc.

I have search pages for 'Mercedes, automatic, petrol, over 10 years' on Usedcarsni & Gumtree, 'Mercedes W124' on CarandClassic, 'cars for sale' on Mercedes-190.co.uk & Retrorides, 'vintage & classic cars - mercedes' on Donedeal.ie all permanently open on separate tabs on my desktop and ipad - and I check them all every single day, even when I'm actively trying to sell cars.
What sort of obsession is that?
I'm going to try to turn them all of now though - except for the occasional peek, just for old times sake.

CL600 bi turbo M275.
More reliable and much much more performance than those earlier cars.
I know both are sold but just wanted to show that they are out there within thread budget.

You guys are making me itch to sell the Defender I've had for the past 8 years (that's been my baby and long term project and something I'd never sell) and get an r129 SL500 to replace it...
Gits.
Keep the defender and get a cheaper 500SL. Gits.
They are great machines, I can't wait to get mine back and get the roof down!
