You're not going to get an old petrol estate shed that does 40mpg, ever. Unless you sit on motorways doing 45 mph with a strong tail wind. Unless you absolutely need that £400 and/or you know the Subaru is about to go pop with something expensive, imo you'd be better sticking with what you know. Bear in mind (and I know I keep saying this..) buying at shed values it's a complete lottery whether you end up buying a gem or someone else's problems that they've seen brewing and have decided to get shut so that they don't pick up the tab for it.

Used to be a good channel, now it is paid adverts gushing over the latest st. And they never gave the car away like they said, so really gone down hill.

I've not watched this one and unless I'm extemely bored it's unlikely that I will based on what you've said, however the previous video to that was just an infomercial for some diagnostics software as the entire video revolved around getting as many warning lights to show up as possible then hooking up the infomercial diagnostics thingy to show what they all were. They weren't even trying to disguise it! I get that all these channels are looking for ways to generate an income but so many of them fail so hard at the implementation and it does them immense damage when the viewers twig onto it and stop viewing the videos, or worse, unsubscribe completely.

yes the app is for USA customers, showed a USA map. The latest video isn't a sell, but it is drival. The older stuff was miles better.

Focus 1.6, old shape V40, probably a Pug or Megane. Astra? They would do 40mph ish. V40 and Focus deffo do as I've used them both. I would imagine that any 1.6/1.8 small estate would do about 40ish? Maybe I'm wrong.

Anyone else have share the perverse joy of running a car they don't care about?
As much as I love the supercars, rarities and classics often posted on PH, there is something to be said about an old shed.

I'm currently running a '10 Nissan Pixo, rarely washed and complete with a decent-sized car park scrape.
It's nice being able to park anywhere, not care if it gets a dent or scratch and generally not worry about it.

Anyone else find an odd feeling of freedom and joy driving a crap car or am I just a bit weird? hehe

i love my old shed

Only once in the last 3/4 years have I spent more than a grand on a car, and that was the impulse buy of my Eos with GTI engine at 3k. Current 300 quid Passat is tested and taxed with a new set of wheels and tyres all round for 900 smackers. New engine was a ton, fitted myself. Still have parts to sell that came off to hopefully offset the cost. Fuel tracker says it's doing 44mpg 7 quid a day fuel and if I keep it for a year like the previous MK5 TDI it will have cost me about 20p per mile over 31k, can't complain at all. Bought as body was clean, and had a genuine vw tow bar and electrics which I plan to rob for my other (long-term) Passat. Have various winter wheels and tyres laying around at home due to being a serial VAG offended, and a full kitted out workshop means no trips to garage, and OBD diagnostics from my phone. Engine that came out had a belt done 2k before so that will go onto the new engine😂. I get a weird kick out of spending almost nothing on it. It's remapped to 185bhp/425nm for free and not far off mates MK5 GTI he is 5k into...

How about this then...

I'm going to hoover out, dust, wash and polish my shed soon. It is time.

Even more how-about-ery... I have winter wheels and tyres for the shed as well, they'll be going on when the clocks go back.
I think winter wheels are allowed according the shed handbook, aren’t they? Extra points if they’re steelies.
Proper shedding: winter tyres on all year round
It appears I’m a proper shedder then, too.
Currently have winter tyres on, which are soon getting changed for....other winter tyres.

they haven't turned to gloop and you haven't died which is a miracle if you were to believe the PH collective (BS).

In spring if my winter tyres were getting worn I would use them through the summer so new winters were fitted late autumn.

They work just fine.

Do horseshoes count as steelies?

Looking at the rust on the doors and sills in the close-up shots, I'd say you've had a lucky escape. Imo Ford are poor choices for cheap shedding once the tin worm appears as it spreads at a spectacular rate. In fairness, BMW (E46 era) are no bother for it though.

Mot passed,55 plate 1.7 cdti Astra, only needed headlamps replaced, originals were well cloudy, two from ecp £49,
Mine were advisories last year.
It needs one buffer pad, some T CUT , a bottle of Turtle wax headlamp restorer.
Clean the muck off with Tcut, then use Turtle wax. It's UV that makes thm go cloudy - Turtlewax restores is said to have UV filter. Moi- I'm wondering if factor 50 sunscreen would be as good .

I’ve got that engine In a newer 2012 semi shed Astra. Bought to be a reliable and economical commuter... the MPG is terrible. I could put up with the horrendous boringness of the car if it had good MPG.. on the plus side though, not caring about it makes picking up dings and going to the tip a lot less stressful, and I can actually park right outside Tesco’s too.
