Decisions, decisions...
Obligatory 'what could possibly...' in search of a cheap laugh, but don't let the look of the dealer put you off what sounds like a pretty decent car.

And, after all, you'll only regret what you don't do.

Go for it.
Looks tremendous to me... 2 things just to check on pre-facelift 211s though and I've not had one so I don't know first hand but have put in long term hankering reading.

- Seems you should read about certain kind of valeo radiator and check if the car has one - this might have been sorted by 04 plate, but should be easy to check. They can fail in such a way that ends up dumping coolant into the gearbox which kills it - obviously a huge bill if you get hit by this one.

- The brake-by-wire system has a pump and a controller which counts the number of applications or similar - once you hit a limit you need a new pump which can be pricy.

Some of you may have seen this, but I'll post it here in case anyone has a view.

Chap looking to value a 124 estate with a rather charming interior. Starts off a bit odd, then improves.

If he had a proper clean done on the interior it would look fantastic, you can just tell!

Looks very tidy but price is insane. Wrong engine (M20, not M50), no leather and wrong gearbox for me. Everything else is very good though!

Walk away. This area is like Bradford .I would not buy a pint of milk and trust it near Hounslow ,Feltham heathrow etc . "PC" brigade can kiss my ass .
Never quite get this sort of reasoning.

The example is good, and you're happy with the price. Why give a stuff about who's selling it and what part of town it's from?

I agree with you, Olly.

Believe it or not, there are also some extremely nice affluent areas around there too.

Exactly. As with all general rules, it's there to be broken when, with eyes wide open, it checks out in the metal.

I have to say, I disagree on the "no leather"...but agree on the rest, as I pointed out to my prospective buyer earlier today! M20 525i isn't the same as an M50 525i at all. Additionally, early pre-facelift E34 isn't the same as a facelift car, sold and registered 6 months after E34 Saloon production had already ceased.
I think I may have already sold mine for just slightly less than that one!

Off topic I bought my Exige a few years back from Sprint. Nice chap and high standards of prep.

This is probably not hagglable into thread budget, but possibly get close. Lot of car for the money.

nice find Edo, I like that.

Today I am mostly wanted an SL500, but can I find a late 90's one that looks halfway decent? no, bah!

R129 - haven't you elucidated around the 600 motor before? I can't find it at the moment

Barge bought

So today I flew to Edinburgh, met Sam, and after (electronically) exchanging a few pieces of silver, I drove away in his 745i.

So smooth. So fast. So luxurious.

Apart from the satnav freezing 5 miles from home, it behaved faultlessly for the whole 500 miles, and the computer claims a pleasing 27.5mpg.

Tomorrow I shall take it to the car wash, then photos to follow.
Sam here - well that was a pleasure smile

If only all car buying / selling experiences were like this. The thread/forum/bargeist community has been tremendously helpful here. The 745i was originally posted in the thread and I bought it to replace an ailing E34 540i. In the interim I had good advice from thread members, notably Ross, on fettling the thing. And then when it came to selling I advertised on PH, Autotrader and eBay, resulting in a total of 3 viewings, two of which were threadists and one of whom, Brickwall, has purchased. Frankly I should have saved myself the expense and trouble of the AT and eBay ads hehe Great to have the car remain within the thread massive and 'Brickwall' was an absolute gent.

A very well cared-for and low mileage (44k) example just reaching its 23rd birthday having had two owners and a mostly garaged existence. Full service history

I am enjoying what I perceive as the green-shoots of appreciation of the XJS. I think that's what they call confirmation-bias.

That looks a nice example, and a great colour, but it's the neither-fish-nor-fowl of the early facelift.

Doesn't look as flash (nor is it as lively) as the last cars, nor is it as 'classic' as the early cars.

I really like it, but for £5k a really nice XJR (X300 or X308) is the Jag I would take.

The XJS's 'exclusive factor' appeals a lot, mind.

I do like an XJS, but they're very colour-sensitive IMO. I'd quite like a 4.0 model in dark blue, but backdated to look like an earlier one.

Although I keep having thoughts of a nice S3 XJ6 4.2 at the moment. I'd like to be able to lather up in a bucket of waft.

That would be a simply enormous task. The post-facelift XJS is almost closer to being an entirely new car styled to look a lot like an XJS than it is a selective update to the original.

The changes were deceptively wide-reaching.

The one trick I think they missed (and I can understand why they chose not to do it) was not creating an XJSR by fitting the supercharged 4.0 AJ16 and sexing-up the driver-appeal dossier.

What a great car that would be today with that styling and 300bhp.

This looks a tad weathered on the inside:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-P-Jaguar-XJ-Executi...

But what a fabulous place to sit over the winter.

It's a trader, but hopefully the car would check out and be worth a look. Albeit battered; the sports seats look nice as does as the steering wheel with the wooden inserts. Long MOT. I would be surprised if the mileage was anywhere near correct judging by the look of the seats, but at this rock bottom price, does it matter?

This is a little pricier but looks shiny and sexy. I love the colour on this one. The dealer is not in Washington though, they're in Whitley Bay!

Another 3.2, and in grandad-spec colour but on the XJ, it works.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-XJ8-AUTO-3-2-V8-2...

This all comes in the midst of a day when I've been out, putting miles on my XJ, and loving it. Although, as time with it wears on, I can confirm it feels considerable less 'advanced' than my old A8, it is imbued with a character and charm that almost transcends being a mere metal box on four wheels. I love driving it, I love looking at it. It attracts a certain amount of goodwill and appreciation that my A8 never did. It's a more relaxing thing to drive, lazier and softer, but also more communicative. The driving position is unlike any barge you've ever had, it's more like sitting in a sports car (as someone in another thread likened it to, and I qutie agree). Hunkered down in the low seat, with door and console wrapped around you and inlaid instruments ahead. It is distinctly 'Jaguar' in it's execution. I just love it.
