If you do an insurance search it comes up as a normal 735i not an Alpina
so I assume it's a Sytner conversion?
They weren't officially UK homologated production cars IIRC which is why they come up as the model they were imported as/based upon prior to the conversion work carried out here. Which means verification with Sytner themselves to ensure it's a bona fide Alpina.so I assume it's a Sytner conversion?

Interesting point though, I'm not sure how imported models that the UK never got (E34 Bi-Turbos for example) show up. Depends when they recieved manufacturer status in UK (1983 in their home market if memory serves) as to when they show up as Alpinas I assume.

C'mon ferry dish the dirt, why was it so bad?
The worst things about it after 20k:I hated the steering. Lightning fast, no feel, I didnt like it at all in the wet. Im in a minority on that viewpoint though.
Rear 3/4 window blew out on mine at 70ish leptons on the M1.
The usual TVR sorting problems. On mine the most annoying being the throttle cable and the radiator. Air con was lousy, but I never cared about that.
Heatsoak from the transmission tunnel.
Oh the clutch going at 19k due to the "unique" TVR application of the AP clutch system.
Oh and then whatever DM did to my car after a major service with them. It wasnt the same after.

The 3.5 engined cars were Sytner specials built in Nottingham rather than Bavaria. The spec of these cars varies hugely as they were entirely bespoke aftermarket packages; it was possible to have the engine mods and nothing else, and vice-versa.
Chucking out about 260bhp (IIRC) they're not shabby.

now that bit I didn't know, that you could have a cosmetic Alpina only, always assumed it was the full package of mechanical fettling, upgrades and re-upholstery and wood trim etc. Interesting.Dunk76 said:

That's why I think I;d be content with chopping the '50 for one. -40bhp but also minus quite a few kilos over the pointy end too. The M30 cars do have more pleasant steering/front end feel allowing more accurate positioning, the twelve counters that defecit with great gobs of torque (any ideas on the B11 3.5 in that respect? 300 lb ft+ is a nice amount in a two tonne car, less starts to feel a bit too much like work) everywhere.So the idea of a 735i with near 740/750 grunt appeals hugely, allowing a bit of leeway for Alpina's notoriously conservative claims deisgined not to steal too much thunder from the top BMW model and I reckon there's barely much between them in th eseat of the pants sense, plus losing the horrifically and needlessly complicated SLS would be an upside
...but then E32 B12s do crop up now and then, thankfully at wonderfully prohibitively mental prices

EFAAlpina don't do cosmetics only. Sytner were more than happy to sell-out, which is why they don't build Alpinas anymore.

However, looking past the coach stripes, wheels, and 'dozer blade nailed to the front;
Engine Size................3430cc
Engine Assistance.......N/A
Engine Type...............straight 6
Gear Box....................-speed automatic
Power........................252bhp
(rpm..........................@rpm)
Torque........................240lb ft
(rpm..........................@rpm)
I think that the 3.5 was on it's last legs by 1990 - probably a much nicer proposition in an E24 or E28

To be honest, I'd probably rather take a punt on this tomorrow afternoon;

Spanish gearbox, and no reserve.
Take it from me, you'll never tire of the way the 3.3 engine sounds or goes.

Cheers Dunk, I like the cosmetics of that period Alpinas (and most since, far more than any factory Sport/M Sport styling where applied), yes including the stripes but 240 lb ft isn't enough to feel "effortless" in that weight of car IMO.However, looking past the coach stripes, wheels, and 'dozer blade nailed to the front;

In an E28 that'd appeal more as you say, in an E30 as a B6 3.5 (or especially as a B6 3.5 S) it'd be irresistably amusing - as prices reflect.
Still, it looks very, very good and with £3-3.5k in folding to play with, I'd be making a short trip up the road. I'd have to really want the plate (about which I'm not fussed) to go more.
