Truck driver decided that using the clear right hand turn only lane and then cutting into the congested inside lane that he wanted all along would be a good idea. He blames his blindspot for it not being a good idea... furiousclap anyway, the nearly-a-barge E350 has seen better days. Not the best start to my day.

I won’t sully the thread with all pictures but for those not faint of heart, a rather poorly looking example of the breed is residing for £899 on the link below that could be restored if anyone was mad enough to sink money into the poor thing.
The owner of that has 'bargeism' if that's his driveway in the images;

Nice car once, elec seats, auto, cruise but no AirCon? Also having it sat by the sea and unused may not be the best plan for 1990's Japanese steel.

To be fair, Krikkit, I'd rather have a V8 as well, but I can wind up doing 1000 miles a week, and paying for most of the fuel myself, so until the Lottery comes up I'll have to stay on the dark side.

George, if you can hear a chuffing noise when the engine is running, it'll be combustion gases bypassing an injector. They have a copper seal that lets go occasionally, easy to fix if caught early, but the longer it's left the harder it may be to remove and replace. If you remove the plastic engine covers and find an injector surrounded by oily gunk then you've got the problem. Google some images and you'll see what I mean.
Yep, not arguing against the diesels - miles and budget dictate whether one is appropriate.

I found one of mine had gone, only noticeable running the engine with the bonnet up by a faint smell of diesel. Once I took the acoustic engine cover off it was plain as day! Shockingly good insulation from a bit of foam and plastic.

It's a bit of a faff to do as you need a special puller tool to remove them - I'm happy to lend any threadist mine.

This sold for £3.8k, there is a 73,000 mile engine on ebay at £2250 as well. So £6k plus a bit of fitting time and a good refresh of the engine before you drop it in.
(560 SEC - I thought I wouldn’t clog the thread with more photos)

Relisted this morning at £7k or best offer - I wonder what happened there!? Certainly, there’s no such thing as a cheap 560, either buying or repairing, and given that one’s history it’s no longer looking a bargain.
Given he has quite a few cars on sale (see sellers other items) I suspect he may be a dealer and his "friend" won it...

It's been a happy day chez deG.

The SLC passed its (no longer essential) MOT and the Lexus has garnered a degree of domestic love (not always the case with my purchases; some of you may recall tear-gate).

The new acquisition shown here in all its bloated majesty.

Seems a nice car. The seller seems to have some very nice stock for sale on checking previously sold stock. Anyone know if the seller is reputable?

Very nice CdG! Wafty loveliness in the red corner and refined style in the blue corner. You mentioned the journey home identified a couple of quirks with the LS...?

As a gesture of our gratitude and appreciation for what he does, and also in our enlightened self-interest, one of us should volunteer to do Mark Wossisface at MTSV a proper website, gratis.

I'm possibly revealing myself as a complete div but I thought his site was pretty good. What's wrong with it? My only criticism was that if you get into the detailed pictures they don't move from one to the next.

I don't visit there much these days, but I just looked and it looks like a charmingly old-fashioned and dusty place. smile

Still rue the day I didn't buy Felicity Kendall's old 190E when he had it in...

Quirks rather than problems I think. First impressions really are very good, but some things still strike me.

I've never experienced cooled and ventilated seats before (and my nads were cooler than one would ordinarily tolerate before I managed to suss the nuance of temperature gradation) but I don't think the seats are as good as those in the Volvo.

Keyless entry and go is the answer to a question no-one asked.

The ergonomics of the dash are excellent, albeit slightly odd. There are two outside temperature gauges in total - why? The dials are white back-lit, the needles are red, the temp reading is orange and the gear selector indication is green - it lacks the coherence of its competitors.

I don't have the super-duper HK sound system but the radio didn't seem to re-tune itself as quickly as I'd expect. In fairness, I hadn't read the manual and was randomly touching buttons as I attempted to re-tune on the move from commercial to BBC, but first impressions weren't great (although the sound was good).

The engine and performance feels brilliant, but high speed cornering was less assured than in the V70. I only sensed that once so it'll be interesting to see whether that first impression lasts.

Overall, and noting that I've driven it less than 300 miles so far, it really does seem as good as people say. It 'feels' reliable - subjective and odd I know but there is a solidity and robustness to it. The vendor had removed the bumper to replace some parking sensors and remarked that the quality of fittings and ease of removal and replacement was top notch.

It may well be that it falls into the 'worthy but dull' category overall. That probably matches my expectation of the car. In fairness, it probably matches me. I like it.

I like his website - it's endearingly retro and gives the impression of someone who focuses on substance rather than image. A shiny new website would ruin that.

MoT history tantalising. Could it really be 35k miles?

Roof light is lit up, never a great start. Wrong indicators, headlamp wiper arm cap missing, passenger sun visor broken, fairly base spec with 4 speed box and no air-con fitted. However, the interior condition overall is pretty good, engine bay clean enough, still has the spare tyre info label in place and the hyphen in 300SL-24 is still present and correct.

I have a hunch that the photos are taken on the edge of Hampstead Heath/Golders Green so it could have been a rich person's barely used plaything. £4.5k seems potentially bargainous.
I’m so with you on that hunch! I used to live in Hampstead and I had to park the other side of the Heath (now then), and that looks pretty much like the road that my slightly ratty Citroen XM would bring the tone down in.
