Unfortunately it seems not. The DVLA makes millions of pounds from the sale of registration numbers many of which only have any financial value when misrepresented. Consequently there is no will to strengthen legislation or start taking significant action against illegal plates as doing so would kill the market for the wretched things stone dead.

And even if displaying an illegal plate did become endorsable and that had the happy effect of making every single one disappear overnight that still wouldn’t do anything about the real underlying problem which of course is that the illegal Platee is demonstrating he places a much higher value on satisfying his ego driven vanity rather than having any respect or regard of what the legal requirements are.
Clearly 'Jaguar Steve' has reached that point in life where he probably no longer has sex (at least with someone else) and has nothing better to do than hate people having a bit of fun!! Ive heard rumours he can be seen stalking graveyards talking to tombstones............Your dead Im not, your dead Im not !!!! LOL you make me die.
We all see things differently smile

If all you see is a bit of fun then go ahead. Wallow in the rampant Chavness of illegal plates and enjoy.

What I see is a Platee with a severely low self-esteem and so driven by a need to improve their social status they are prepared to spend weeks squinting at the numberplate classifieds mentally reassigning the functions of letters and numbers whilst ignoring the font and spacing requirements to find something they can delude themselves that almost spells whatever self-important message to the world it is they want to spell.

Then they'll pay perhaps a serious amount of money for whatever abortion they think will do the job, ignore all the legal warnings and search online for somebody who'll make that "X 5P3C14L X" Chavplate for them without being troubled by any of the legal requirements that apply to doing so.

Chavplate will arrive a couple of days later and no doubt it'll go on something seriously aspirational - judging by sheer volume of posts on here chances are it'll be on something Teutonic complete with obligatory black wheels and even blacker windows or maybe a Range Rover driven by a Essex Geeeezah/Complete Psychopath, or something really, like yeah, you know, like really well fashionable yeah, driven by a wrinkly Orange Tart with absolutely massive sunglasses she can't see through.

Once Chavplated they are all happy to run the risk of a FPN - after all they are deliberately breaking the law and know it - every time they use the car. All of that for nothing more than a puffing up a seriously deflated ego.

That's just mental IMO. Chavplaters must have something seriously, deeply wrong with them.

Only thing I see it's on a BMW, trying too hard?
....way too hard.
So Barry Michael Willis isn't allowed to own a BMW?
Of course he is but there are so many BMM, BWM, BWW plates about (on BMW's) that I think I'll go with 'trying to hard'

Such tolerance and intolerance in the one post biggrin

TBH I think the pictured culprits on this thread see it as a minor infraction of the law, and a way to personalise their generally anonymous car in a sea of similar motors. I'm glad they do - gives us something to chortle at!

Yes, he does come across as a right bore/weirdo, but this plate is absolutely horrific :

There you are - that's exactly what I'm talking about.

Spend some time driving round the Essex Badlands or TOWIE country - go on, I dare you. You'll soon realise where I'm coming from and see for yourself there's a awful lot more to Chavplated cars and vans than just an illegal numberplate.

This is a place for crap plates

I'm sorry but some of you are trying too hard to see reasoning as to what makes a chav plate.

Perfectly good plate on a perfectly good car....Let the man live

But you're moaning about some with just a bit of mis-spacing. How does it affect your life in any way if someone plates up X12 ABC as X1 2 ABC ?

Its the plating equivalent of them setting their cruise control at 75mph on an empty motorway. Yes its technically not legal but you're coming across as a right weirdo by continually moaning about it laugh Life is too short, why bother?

I completely agree with anyone moaning about mr10secs plate and ones like it though. Its a deliberate attempt to present it as something its not, and if he drives into you and drives off its going to make it hard for passers by to give the legitimate plate. Often these mis-spaced ones will actually be making it easier to remember so why cry that they're doing it?

If it were up to me I'd let people mis-space if they didnt use bolts and faked letters and so on. Or I'd at least turn a blind eye to it. But on the flip side, clowns like mr10secs would be getting penalty points and plates withdrawn on a 1st offence.

Well, when I see a bad numberplate, I think "hmm, that person might be a tt".

When I see a 996 with dubious modifications I think "hmm, that person might be a tt".

When I see a RR I think "hmm, that person might be a tt". (This one the least, as they are fundamentally fine, it's just you know... the footballer effect)

All of these though, are "might". But you had to open your mouth and confirm it. "The bird", the grammar, multiple exclamation points, the invitation to say it to your face. I don't like to generalise but sometimes stereotypes exist for a reason.

I would have thought both your plates are worth < £1000

They're so badly altered that you're only ever one rude comment or one 'piss someone off' situation away from them writing a letter to the cops or phoning 101 and you've just lost your plates. Or even just a bit of jealousy that you own a porsche and a range rover and thats it... plates gone.

I'd take it graciously and with good humour if I were you Mr10Secs, he's got you bang to rights.

The boasting about going to public school was the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake.

Dude I take everything on PH with good humour LOL, its all a bit of fun at the end of the day but just amuses me how something that does not effect them gets people so wound up, Ill sit and chat all night about the cars and even give people rides and ive been doing some events for charity so its all relative, just dont like his officious tone about stereotypes, funny thing is he insinuating lower class but from what ive seen of the upper classes I would rather be at the lower end. Damn its hot and sticky! BTW i dont know about boasting, at the time I hated it LOL Just letting him know his stereotype is not quite correct, never judge a book by its cover and all that.

That plate has to be a classic example of one that would be mis-remembered by a witness if ever in an incident, but maybe that's the way you like it.
