This sold for £3.8k, there is a 73,000 mile engine on ebay at £2250 as well. So £6k plus a bit of fitting time and a good refresh of the engine before you drop it in.
(560 SEC - I thought I wouldn’t clog the thread with more photos)

Relisted this morning at £7k or best offer - I wonder what happened there!? Certainly, there’s no such thing as a cheap 560, either buying or repairing, and given that one’s history it’s no longer looking a bargain.
Odd sales history, this is the 3rd time it's been listed,

1st ad -
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-BENZ-560-SEC-1...

Interestingly that sold may 17th, 5 days after it failed an MOT, no mention of Exhaust emits dense blue smoke at idle (7.3.A.2b) in that advert, it actually states, GEARBOX/ENGINE - VERY GOOD CONDITION.

Steering box has a significant oil leak (2.2.D.2e) on the MOT is mentioned as SMALL LEAK FROM POWER STEERING PUMP.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-BENZ-560-SEC-1...

2nd advert adds

BLUE SMOKE WHEN ENGINE START AROUND 5 MIN, however still states - GEARBOX/ENGINE - VERY GOOD CONDITION.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-BENZ-560-SEC-1...

3rd ad now states - BLUE SMOKE WHEN ENGINE START AROUND 5-10 MIN (EXHAUST VALVE STEM SEALS NEEDS TO BE CHANGE)

They have a 928 that's been listed 4 times. They seem to have winning bids but also classified ads with way higher prices, so they do seem to be somewhat odd auctions.

Quirks rather than problems I think. First impressions really are very good, but some things still strike me.

I've never experienced cooled and ventilated seats before (and my nads were cooler than one would ordinarily tolerate before I managed to suss the nuance of temperature gradation) but I don't think the seats are as good as those in the Volvo.

Keyless entry and go is the answer to a question no-one asked.

[snip]

It may well be that it falls into the 'worthy but dull' category overall. That probably matches my expectation of the car. In fairness, it probably matches me. I like it.
Keyless entry is a flawed system that results in many, many car thefts. Terrible idea. Poorly implemented.

The Japanese have been making reliable machines for decades. Sometimes even exciting ones. smile

That reminds me of induction at my University placement year. My organization had subcontracted some supply to a Japanese company for 100,000 widgets with a 2% failure tolerance.

At the due date, 100,000 perfect widgets were delivered.

Along with another case. It contained a note: "We don't know why you want them, but here are your 2% failures".

The Japanese manufacturing industry created Quality after receiving our old Austin manufacturing equipment after the war. Europe didn't really notice until the 90s.

I like keyless entry and go.

Toddler under one arm, bag in the other, messing for a big bunch of keys (very important person) in jeans pocket (very fashionable too) is an unwelcome extra little fafflet in my faff-filled life.

(Point taken about the thefts. Due mainly to destructive toddlers, but also to slovenly wife, anyone stealing a car of my wife's will bring it back pretty quickly, or not even take it away at all. Utterly disgusting in there)

He could do with a couple of touches to jazz it up a bit. Borrow some pizzaz from Ling? Make himself the star.

I'll confess to a little crush on Ling. I wish she was my friend. She did once send me a packet of noodles. Which was nice.

I'll be doing a factory tour at Toyota in Japan in November. Being a geek and making stuff in my day job, I'm very excited. Years ago I did a tour of Sony's TV factory in Wales. That was an eye opener.

An insight into German mentality: a colleague and I once visited a leading German auto tuner, one of the best known in their field having run a work's team in the DTM. We were taking out a UK made gearbox to fit into a development road car, which my engineer colleague did. Fitting the gearbox didn't take long and he then asked for some oil. "Nein,Nein! Vee must vait until zee oil man returns from lunch; only he ist allowed to fill it!"

I'd prefer it if the pictures were smaller and there were fewer of them. Apart from that it's OK.

It’s nearly 79 from the pictures, n’est-ce pas?
I’d have it!
I really want that. I have nowhere to keep it, and very little in the way of mechanical skills required to make a (probably) fragile French oddity that hasn't moved for 40 year roadworthy again. Yet I still want it.

I like it also, not because I have any toddlers but it is easier. Plus pressing the top of the gear stick to start the engine practically means you have the DB5 from Goldfinger.

Start buttons are cool. But only (in newish cars at least) if they aren't accompanied by sticking a key into a barrel as well. Then it's extraneous prattery.

Old cars can do whatever they want. Automatically cool either way.

Vroom, vroom.
Getting laddo into one of those is like posting an obstreperous buttered octopus through a letterbox.

I've gathered from another famous thread on this very site that under no circumstances is a man of my local standing (pillock of the community) to allow my progeny to ride in the main part of the trolley, in case I precipitate a localised house price crash.

And then after all that, I need to take it back to the front of the shop again. Because tidy. And mainly because pound.

I'm terribly vexed.

I want one of those footie-wavy-bootie-openie things. The Germans will call it FootieWavieBootieOpenietronic.

I’m with you SJ. It is a terrible website.

I suspect he is like the guy refurbishing my sash windows. Amazing craftsmanship. Charges very little for what he does. Reliable and affable. No advertising of any sort but he is booked up for 6 months because he is so good.

I told him that he could double his prices ( as soon as he has finished my stuff obvs) and he would still be rammed with business. He isn’t interested in the business, just enjoys his work. I suspect the same is true here.

Don’t get me started on car and classic....

The mtsv site's not great, but at least it gives you a decent-size picture! I'd leave it as is, it's unclutted and simple.

C&C, however, is bloody awful.
