Conundrum...

I'm just spit balling, here (thanks, Colonel Jessop) but here's the thing:

If you had a GT, you'd drive it yourself.
If you had a Flying Spur, you'd sit in the back.

Thoughts?

??!!! I remember someone telling me that about a new Supra in (I think) the mid-nineties and I couldn’t believe any manufacturer could be either so stupid or so uncaring for future owners, but I guess we shouldn’t be surprised about this sort of nonsense these days.
It definitely used to be the starter that was engine out too, sloping with various writing, turbo and anything reasonably significant in terms of accessories.

Looks like indies have taken it down to just removing a bunch of items and going in from the bottom.

Either way it looks like a nightmare. The whole engine is compressed between the front driveshaft and bumper, and very wide to boot, so access to anything down the sides is crazy.

Funny we just talked about foggy night and yesterday was just that.. Not great pictures as they were taken on my phone but still.

cloud9 so menacing!! The phone pics help make it even more so imo. According to everyone I've talked to mine has a bit of a reputation in Japan of being associated with certain aggressive persons, good thing I didn't get a black one as I'm about as threatening as a biscuit laugh Today mine was shared on the TorqueGT page so pretty proud of that smile

My XJR is sharing workshop space at a specialist with a RR Sport needing the twin turbos changed - body off then:

As stupid as it looks that's actually a great solution, it's quite a quick job to do (about 4 hours for both on and off), and as long as you have a 4 post ramp it means things like turbo changes are a much nicer process as access is brilliant. Not for the normal home spanner jockey of course.

Interesting, thanks - with my ability to scope creep requirements, that would end up a very expensive exercise.

In XJR-land, I’m hoping my perma-firm suspension has been resolved. No lights on dash. No error codes, Varying ride heights.

The good fellows at SSG Automotive in Ottershaw found a cracked housing on the NSR ride height sensor, affecting sensor motion in the downwards plane. They believe it’s an improvement, I’m hoping it’s fixed it as the firm setting is annoying at best and had me thinking about de-ECAT’ing it with coilovers.

There should be a sub-thread in here for aspirational tantalising close to thread ruinous barges. The Flying Spur would be a regular. I would. Woof.

I thought I'd asked this earlier but obviously cocked up my post. So second time lucky. What is the Thread view of the Bentley Continental GT? I find myself hankering after an early (i.e. cheap) one. Not footballer/drug spec. Green paint, tan leather, clear glass, silver wheels. Out of budget, of course (although surely it's only a matter of time), but out of sorts?
Lovely car, madly fast, and very comfortable, but go for 07MY onwards.

Ideally let it live it out of the rain as well.

I think about this a lot and always come to conclusion that if I had a Continental GT I would wish it was a DB9, and if I had a DB9 I would wish it was a Continental GT.

I have solved this conundrum by not being able to afford either.

Continental GT is night-and-day the superior product. But DB9 is sexy.
Facelift from MY07? Any mechanical changes?

There are a few on PH <£25k and even one or two <£20k.

Tempting just for jokes.
Not so much for visible changes, but there were a lot of hidden improvements. Much better car, apparently. (Might have been 06MY, not 07MY. Damn my headsieve)

In spec terms - Saddle interior with Cypress, Silver Tempest, or Dark Emerald paint, please. And the original 2-Piece wheels.

On Bentleys. Wife says: "I like them but we've got no money and you drive 120 miles every day, what on earth do you want one for?"

I spared her the truth (i.e., I want one because I think it will make me more attractive to younger women, or just to women generally) and agreed that it would be a bad idea. I also checked out the price of maintenance after Baister told me they were a "fookin nightmare". He reckons it's engine out to do anything, such as replacing the O2 sensors. He also suggested I check out the price of brakes. At Euro, a single front disc is £1,500!

I also googled mpg. 18mpg in real world use, falling to 3 if you cane it. So I'd get 12.

I still want one: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

I sold my Dads Azure last year, due to his failing health. These things are massive and drive like the proverbial boat. Fenders out seemed appropriate when I parked it.

I've never been in one, but my old boss (a huge petrolhead) and a current colleague have had them.

Both, in tasteful spec, looked superb. Neither, sadly, stayed for long - the first was returned to the dealer after numerous faults despite being new at the time, the second simply wasn't driven due to work pressures and the specialness of it.

In short: please buy one, r129sl, and want it taking to somewhere several countries away. I call first dibs on the road trip.

ETA: I'd want the outside of the first one with the timber of the second, but a slightly different shade of leather. It'd make a nice contrast to your 124.

How many parts does it share with a Phaeton? Option to buy the same part but with a VW rather than Bentley sticker on it for much of the car?

A sort-of-friend has a CGT in black over black. I think it's a 55 plate but I haven't seen him for a while. Possibly shooting tigers.

I think he paid £30,000 three years ago. It was in good shape then and had no major issues (he reported) but have no idea if that is still the case

Why not just buy one of those Chrysler 300 jobbies and stick a grille on it? Looks v similar from here, and we all love a bluffer.

I bet brakes on one of them aren't SOTW-cost.

I know, I know. But my approach to car dealers is that they are all the same, save some of them have more expense showrooms. They are all dishonest to the core. You're on your own when buying a car, new or used, auction, dealer or private sale. As long as you remember that, you'll be fine. It doesn't matter where you buy it from because they are all as bad as each other. It's a bit like driving a taxi: selling cars for a living does something rotten to a man's soul.

How about this for colours? 20 grand. 65k miles. Very dodgy looking dealer.

Talking of car dealers and in particular Northumbrian outlets, there’s an E500 estate on eBay, “coming soon, photos to follow” which sounds (given how few exist in the UK) remarkably like the blue estate discussed a couple of weeks ago - spec, mileage etc.. Original vendor was asking £3.5k; if it is the same car, it’s now up for double that figure.
