Wow that's odd - would've expected it to be the original reg, the plates looked to be the period black and silver embossed ones
Maybe it originally had a REAL good plate... posh car dealers often had contacts at local licensing offices and would get attractive low number combinations. Hence you often see old Rollers, Jags etc on 'good' original plates. Although, if he had just sold it, DVLA would have allocated a non-transferable, period correct plate for free...

J 112, not returning anything, white Mk 2 Jaguar.

Was skiing in La Plagne this week and saw a British Disco Sport with the reg P14 GNE, thought that was a good spot.

There is a van in Les Gets with the plate LE 56 ETS

The best alpine one is H1VER (french for winter). Seen on a variety of cars over the years.

FF 1 - On a Rolls Royce on an episode of Minder. It's now on a Range Rover Sport.

70 VM - Range Rover.

74 BS - Range Rover Evoque.

Spotted BMW 51X today on some modern Beemer thing. Would be better on a straight six!
