Drove through Tansley in the Peak District earlier. There was a petrol station on the main drag, now turned into a plant nursery, but still largely intact. No time to stop - and no trace so far on Google... But I haven't checked streetview.
My brother had his elbow shattered there. He was pillion on my bike, and I was waiting to turn right into the petrol station. A car went under us, and took his drivers mirror of by hitting my brothers elbow.
The car took off, as did the car behind it.
Turned out the second car was an off duty copper.
In court the driver claimed they shouldn't ban him, as his wife was too heavy to use public transport. Didn't wash, they gave him 18 month ban.

I don't know if this one has been shown before but I stopped for petrol in Steeple Ashton in Wiltshire the other day.

It doesn’t appear to be listed. There are photographs, a detailed description of the building and other info on ‘Coflein’, which is “The online catalogue of archaeology, buildings, industrial and maritime heritage in Wales”, but no mention of listing. It’s in the conservation area so has some protection from demolition, but isn’t subject to an article 4 direction (which requires a planning application for development that would otherwise be ‘permitted development‘). So it has some statutory protection, but it’s a shame it’s not listed (as far as I can see).
The more recent picture I scraped off Google Street View. However, if you navigate the side roads the views are still dated 2011. There's a surreal moment where the view hops from derelict to pristine. Pritchard & Sons either had fingers in many pies or were more adaptable than most firms. They were a garage and are now a funeral directors. If it really is the same company they may own the premises which could have aided its survival.

It turns out Pritchard's have been funeral directors since 1890. I can't see any history of the family or business on-line and I'm reluctant to ring them up in case I buy a service I don't need. I get talked into things.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
