Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc? (Vol 2)
Discussion
That's crazy what has happened to Joe. It was always a fear of mine that something would make its way to the police. I find it hard to believe that nothing would have been reviewed.
I used to always kid myself that the police had better things to do, but I guess with the less of them you see on the streets, the more you see them on Facebook
Still, I don't think the penalty was that severe. It could have been worse.
Would be nice if Joe would come on and give the full story from start to finish, if he fancies

its just as well they didn't get the original shmee passenger ride in the P1 that he filmed hitting 180 on a mway (paul bailey?) or the monkey harris vid where he was passenger (with no seat or belt) in a F1 GTR doing 150+ through rural villages Dave Hedgehog said:

He's a lunatic, I'm telling you...I watch plenty of motor bike channels that as soon as they hit 60mph they blur the speedo yet keep throttle wide open.
Not hard to work out what's going on. OK - it's not crazy speeds but its easy 90-100 mph on NSL roads.
Fair enough open the taps and have fun when no one is around but filming it and making a very lazy attempt to hide the speeds is surely asking for trouble.

According to the tweets, they used a company which calculated speeds based on time spent between clearly identifiable landmarks. Blurring the speedo does nothing. Not hard to work out what's going on. OK - it's not crazy speeds but its easy 90-100 mph on NSL roads.

They used Google Earth Pro, don't you know. They said it enough times
I guess you just have to build the evidence, and say to the judge, this fella was clearly going way above the speed limit.
Just because the speedo isn't showing, doesn't mean the speed can't be worked out. I guess the judge didn't take much convincing!

I watch your videos Dan and as much as I enjoy your content there have been a couple of scenes in some videos where I thought you were being rather brave let's say on public roads. Personally I don't take the risk anymore, and for me I'd much rather watch you working on the cars and then going to a track day then risking what you have just to make some entertaining content on the road.
I came to that conclusion a while ago so nuked everything with any dodgy road driving. I always thought it would be quite easy for someone to build up a case against me having a driving license. Was kinda looking forward to the Daily Mail article though. I hope they do one on Joe for the lols, always funny how the DM reports on things.
ETA: The DM article is already up!

Having a fast car though, you are going to give it a bit of an exercising now and again, there are enough cameras and stuff set up to catch you so probably best not installing your own and uploading the footage for plod to view.
I cant imagine many R8 owners dont exceed the speed limit on occasion, how many of us have done that kind of speed today already ?
But, critically, not posted it !

Only three comments so far, can almost hear the Block Capitals incoming, "More money than Sence", "SMALL WILLY", "My Kia Rio serves all my motoring needs and does 41 mpg, no need for such ridiculous cars", "Serves him right, hope he gets aids" etc, always a glimpse into the psyche of the embittered side of British culture the Daily Mail Comments section. The bloke from Slipknot used to sniff a dead crow in a jar to get him in the mood for their concerts and make him puke, I find a read of the DM comments section acts the same for me if I wake up free of hate and need some to get me through the day

I’m surprised that there are no demands for pitchforks from the Daily Fail readers too.Having a fast car though, you are going to give it a bit of an exercising now and again, there are enough cameras and stuff set up to catch you so probably best not installing your own and uploading the footage for plod to view.

I’ve done plenty of things speed wise that were not big nor clever but as you say the difference is I’m not posting on social media.
It was only a matter of time before the plod caught up with a YouTuber. I'm surprised it was Joe though as he seems one of the more sensible ones given the number of others who's driving is much worse.
I suspect this will just be the start of more people being caught out now there's a case law in favour of the police.

So now you just need to blur out everything except the car... then there is no landmarks for them to calculate the speed from I guess you just have to build the evidence, and say to the judge, this fella was clearly going way above the speed limit.

Quick note - so the conviction was for 65.8mph in a 50. The max recorded speed was 88mph in a single 50m zone. The 93.3 you see quoted was from the original expert report that hadn’t considered any editing etc. It was redone OVERNIGHT before a hearing (they had gone so deep I guess they couldn’t not double down) and presented new findings - and the conviction followed. It seems a bit of a witch hunt and, not having achieved a ban, they seem intent on painting it in the worst light possible. Almost 100mph it certainly wasn’t.
