You aren’t missing anything. I just thought it was a smart dateless original issue on a nice car, which happens to be more interesting than the average plate.

Yep, I fully agree. A nice original issue from 1961, of which very few will have survived - especially 4 x 2s that would have been seen as 'ordinary'. Much more interesting to me that a 2 x 2 bought at a DVLA auction.
