I thought this whilst watching. Car has been off the road for 12 months (maybe more) and as far as I am aware, not really driven before this trip. Been watching alot of professional resto videos and both Tyrrell's and Retro Power Cars do significant shake downs before handing the cars back.

It is not rocket science or brain surgery! we are talking about a video where a car is said to be going 200+mph on a in-car display whilst a camera in the car records a helicopter keeping up with it when the helicopters max speed is 150mph.

It is incredibly common on record runs That the video is a composite of footage put together after the fact. I am not sure why that’s difficult to understand, the gps data is the only info that actually matters and Tim and the critics don’t actually have that.

I know who they are, Misha is very much a YouTuber, his channel has more views in the past 30 days than SoL, MrJWW and TGE combined. Robert is doing this to market Apex. YT is a money earner for all 3 directly and/or indirectly. Hence, as I said, its their job.

I mean for years this very thread has bemoaned the lack of journalism and critical thinking by YTers, here we are after a week of actual journalism and analysis by the above 3 and some are criticising? Odd.

Lamborghini were called out a few years ago by Dale from bridge to Gantry so not new for record videos to be edited up. It was interesting for Mr safe hands friend of the car industry Tim to present but fair play it was an interesting video I thought.

Absolutely agree. I should also say there's no 'hate' from me either. That said, I still see no point in the same 4 people producing multiple videos rehashing the same limited data. Wasn't it established pretty early on, that the car simply wasn't geared to be able to reach the claimed top speed, no matter how many sign posts can be spotted on Google maps? As for 'saving some rich people from making very expensive mistakes' though, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

It was, but then Pinocchio at SSC claimed that they’d secretly changed the gearbox before the run to one whose bearing matched their iffy claims.

Despite it supposedly being a production car, they decided not to mention this rather critical piece of information until it was needed.

That's good news, going to the US added nothing really. I talked to a few petrolheads when I was working in the US before WD moved over there and they all loved WD and apparently it got really strong ratings on whatever channel it is they watched it on - so I can see why they moved WD over there to try and grow it further... BUT the reason the Americans' loved it was because it gave them an insight into quirky European cars that they didn't otherwise get much coverage over. So once they moved to the US, it just became a toned down version of the tens of hot-rodding shows that already exist there.

Ant grew on me over time, but Marc was also very good on the dream car thing they did. Still want Ed back though

The format seemed to change when they moved to the US, more forced humour as if they were trying to impersonate Delboy and Rodney, and less time spent on the projects.

I’m currently watching season 15 and it’s noticeable that there are more episodes, but some of the vehicles don’t actually need much work.

I thought Edd would re-emerge on a copycat programme, but that hasn't happened.

Yes, a lot of the content shown in the trailer seems to be repackaged from the YouTube channel. I suppose it’s a good way to see if the format works. With Top Gear and The Grand Tour moving more into the entertainment field, I do think there's room for a more traditional motoring programme.

Hopefully they can make it a going concern where something like 5th Gear failed. I think as long as they don't try and copy Top Gear or Grand Tour with big budget stunts they should be good.
