280 engine, fantastic colours. Isn't this lovely? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BEAUTIFUL-1982-W123-MERC...
Back to the 190s I might just go really back to basics with something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/F174-YUB-/161501656832?p...
Perhaps slightly off topic for the barge thread, but I think there's something rather charming about a car in such a basic spec
Though clearly I would need to add an r129 sl500 as well as retain the 300e!

Price aside, that w124 is sublime!!!
What are the engine stats with the blower attached?
They're actually quite impressive. It's the OM603.960 12valve engine with a turbo, not the 24valve (they didn't do a turbocharged OM606 until the w210 chassis). It puts out 145bhp (at 4,600rpm) and 201b/ft torque (at 2,400rpm). 0-62.5mph in 10.9 seconds. It's the torque that is impressive (I know, 201lb/ft at 2,400rpm is the same as 100b/ft at 4,800rpm). The normally aspirated Merc diesels are actually fairly gutless at low engine speeds whereas this must be quite different. Official consumption is not significantly different to the NA car but no doubt like all turbo diesels, it suffers if you lean on the turbo. What are the engine stats with the blower attached?

Pickled - a Jag!
The cheapest XJR you can find. An experiment.
I do like a Jag, have owned a SIII, XJ40 (Daimler) and X300.The cheapest XJR you can find. An experiment.
What are the X350 versions like?
Arguably slightly confused, as they are MILES more modern than they'd have occupants and onlookers believe. I believe this is normally attributed to the Americans' Mr Darcy Van Dyke view of what a British luxury car should be. Your Lordship.
Whilst they ride as well as their contemporary competitors, perhaps they aren't as 'just right' as X300 / X308. The best bit is the 2-300kg advantage they hold over everything else in the sector.
Performance wise, the V6 not only kept up perfectly with the V8 308, but also returned almost 5mpg more on a mixture of foreign town and motorway driving (some at double the speed limit!!). I suspect this is largely a function of a serious diet, but also maybe the mildly improved aerodynamics from the more rounded shape. It sounded a bit vacuum-cleaner like after the V8, but then it was a lot smoother and higher revving. Cabin noise at speed seemed about the same in both cars, but the ride was noticeably less wafty (but then again, this 350 was wearing XJR alloys with veneer tyres).
2.6, auto, velour, smoke silver, 70k miles, in budget. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-190e-2-6-C...

Hmm, not sure about that actually, chum. PH thinks my link was a private advert. Well done everyone.
- Slow handclap.
I think we rather commented in general on the fact that it was somewhat unappealing in left hand drive. It got some positive comment.
Still, if you think we deserve a slow handclap, thanks very much.

Yes. Glorious looking car. It's 501 orient red (despite what the ad says). It is a beautiful colour, not often seen. It's hard to describe how rich these old solid colours look when polished up. I was told that the manufacturers can't do it any more now they have to use water-based paints but who knows. Friend of mine has an early 500 SL in the same colour scheme:And there is a famous wide body SEC in the same hue:

Marmite colour. Seems cheap for miles and apparent condition? Think seen before?

However the driver's seat does feel less firm than the passenger one - so there are ways of telling.

Looks splendid. I can see the attraction, and if one had a genuine use or need for a left-hooker, then £6k isn't totally nuts.
But for permanent use in the UK? Definitely nuts.

Really like the exterior. Really like the interior. Combination of the two? Nah! mccrackenj said:

It was a North American review (I think) done back in the day, but still (R129 I still want to try the 300d engine though!)
