Do these Volvo 740's get the same love as the older models?

I am too but on the 15th Oct 2013 MOT said this -Nearside Rear Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.B.2)
2 days later passed its test ? They did enough work in probably a day and a half to rectify this or covered it in underseal ?
I know its an old car and not much money but I just get itchy feet.......

iving there/here, the roads around are bloody excellent. I was driving up from Corby around midnight a few weeks ago, The Wall, disc 2 at door-rattling levels, in the pre-rain chill... and it was fantastic. Flowed amazingly. Had to back off in the last mile as I caught up with a fairly well driven (with less emphasis on "let's see what this hunk of junk will do!") Hyundai Coupe and it would have taken things getting irresponsible to overtake them, as the rain was just spattering and my hunk of junk was going to start intervening if I leaned on the suspension more around some of the better sighted bends...
The back road from Corby to morcotte is very good, some twist and turns and nice straights. steve-5snwi said:

So again delivering cars between dealerships I always got the "runts" (being the newest employee and this one was one of the first times I'd delivered one so didn't know where I was going) Took in a 3 year old Montego 1.3L Automatic with just 16 K miles as a part ex (owned by two spinsters who did shops and back once a week and probably a few coffee mornings and clearly had never seen hard use) - it was never gonna sell locally but our "up north" dealership would probably out it as a cheap mini cab.
It looked like this but in hearing aid beige
Stats for this beast of a car
1275 cc 68 hp (51 kW) at 5600 rpm and 75 lb·ft (102 Nm) at 3500 rpm
So got in it and followed the other car - Porsche 944 turbo from memory
This was the start of a very frustrating journey....
Initially the 1.3 wasn't just asthmatic it was worse - all the get up and go that it should have had got up a gone - wouldn't rev past 3000 rpm - just like hitting a wall or a rev limiter.
Porker was disappearing into the distance so I resorted to holding it in the lower gears manual and keeping my foot in - slowly the rev range started to increase. some of the few horses it had were being released.
By Wisbech I caught up with the Porker waiting in a lay by and then it was the long straights towards Peterborough - needing to make progress to keep up I needed to kickdown to get the odd overtake in.
Kickdown was something the car had clearly not been ever introduced to - I stamped on the throttle to drop a cog in the box and the glovebox flew open and the bonnet released onto the safety catch...... so fluttering up and down in the wind as I overtook.
So the journey became a process of getting an overtake done and getting far enough ahead to be able to stop, get out slam the bonnet down and then get going before being overtaken again by the car that you'd just overtaken.
Obviously I modified my driving approach to avoid using kick down but it turned out that above 60mph any bumps in the road also resulted in glove box and bonnet being released...... I stopped bothering to close the glove box!!!
Once the other side of Peterborough it was the twisty roads around Melton Mowbray - It became very clear that the chassis had the rigidity of a wet paper bag - wind noise increased as you went round a corner - the door gaps clearly changing.
Absolutely awful car with no redeeming features at all that I could find
I arrived a bit fried and frustrated and was given the keys to a Panda 1000s with one of the modern FIRE engines the other guy getting a Rover SD1 in 2600 flavour.
I arrived back first (knowing where I was heading this time) and had an absolutely cracking drive - you don't need lots of bhp, fat tyres and a sports car to have a blast on A and B roads
I later on drove a Montego Turbo - it had a little more charm but a chasm between 2nd and 3rd gear change where it fell out of boost and it became a wait for it wait for it wait for it - woooo hoooo here we go again
Awaits "not so cool story bro"

I once got stopped by the police on the 31st of July for only having 1 trade plate on an August 1st registered MGF. He did a U turn and pulled me over and read the riot act to me. What he failed to spot was the car I was following only had a front trade plate as we were delivering 2 cars to a customer and had 1 set of trade plates between us
So he could have caught two top-level criminals on the same stop?Challo said:

One trade plate on the front one and one on the "tail end charlie" car
We ran like proper pack animals - front car went thro the lights we all did in tight formation
People complain about being or feeling tail-gated - they really have no idea how close the car behind can actually get if everyone understands the rules and is playing the same game.....
Trips to Le Mans in the last few years running several cars in the group through Rouen centre frequently remind me of how effective this approach can be in keeping a bunch of cars together.
You do need a little trust in each other

Remove the seat - place cushion on what's left of the floor - open sunroof and hey you are in and sorted

I see where you're going but I don't think it'd help too much. You make things too complicated
The sunroof, fine that'd sort that bit out but my legs have absolutely no chance of fitting under the steering column and I reckon heel and toe would become a way of life rather than a novelty.
Anyway, I think my mate might have something to say about me pulling the chairs out of his new P&J.
